WHY THE POLITICIZATION OF GOVERNMENT IS WRONG

I disagree.

Creeping socialism through Bueracratese is a politicization of it's own kind. While I am also upset at a clear brand of politicization I nevertheless see a need for a generic political cleaning of the buearacracy. We need to install a culture of proffessionalism and meritocracy.

I work for the Gov't and see the current hiring of contractors vs Civil Service as baby syeps in this direction. Gov't Civil Service behaves like an aristocracy. This needs to be Broken. The bush administration as usual has the motives of the angels but the method of a third world soft dictatorship.

SCOOTER SCOOTS AWAY

"How a President exercising power granted explicitly by the Constitution is “demonstrating contempt…for the rule of law” or “thumbing his nose…at the very concept of democracy” may be considered by some to be hyperbolic, idiotic nonsense."

This is too simple. Without either defending or criticizing Bush, I would say that it is obvious that certain pardons (how about Marc Rich when Clinton was President?) or commutations can be criticized on the above grounds. The fact that a President has a certain power does not justify his every use of that power.

IT'S NOT DEAD. IT'S RESTING.

Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to me. My Senator is Tom Coburn. I like him just fine. Who did you idiots elect?

"24" SPECULATION FEST AND DEAD POOL

I also worry about Chloe. When they showed the previews after last week's episode, I thought they had a short clip with Morris crying out and bending over somebody. Is that "somebody" Chloe?

I also wonder about Bill Buchanan. His CTU career is seemingly over anyway, but he has been on the show for several seasons so his death would qualify as a "shocker" like Tony and Michelle's deaths last year.

I can also see Jack's "death" as the season cliffhanger, but I hope the writers don't do that to us.

Just over four more hours to go! Everyone remember that it's a two-hour final and starts an hour earlier than normal.

MUSINGS ON A LATE SPRING AFTERNOON

I visit your site as a touchstone to see what righties are saying. I often think of you as a paleo-con (a conservative I could respect). I hear the sadness in your tone; and I think you're mostly right in this post. I felt somewhat like you back in 2002-2005, when it seemed the left was dying a torturous death and the future looked permanently neo-con. I wanted to get away too. I encourage you to keep blogging, stay intellectually honest--tell it like you see it. And, remember, this is a lefty talking.

Keep the debate civil, but keep the debate.

SECRETS AND LIES

Rick,
Marilyn's look of panic has nothing to do with the paternity of Josh. She's part of Philip's amoral conspiracy, just like her late husband. She knows that Josh's innocence (already damaged by the country's betrayal and greed of his father and grandfather), won't survive another betrayal...by his mother no less.
She was simply afraid that Philip would let the cat out of the bag. Of course, another source of her fear is that Jack would not be real forgiving about her role in the conspiracy either.

THE POLITICS OF PERSONAL DESTRUCTION

As Jack was setting up the meeting with Cheng, my wife and I both wondered how Jack knew the motel was still abandoned. He has been in Chinese captivity for nearly two years and, before that, was exiled and on the run. It seems unlikely that he would know that the motel was ripe for a rendevous, but I guess this is the part where we suspend belief!

The Chloe-Morris and Milo-Nadia interaction continues to be uninteresting.

I'm holding out hope that we will eventually get closure on the Logan and Philip Bauer plotlines. Maybe Jack's dad is backing Vice Presidnet Daniels and was pulling the strings on the attempted assassination of Wayne Palmer.

HACKSAW REDUX

Last night's episode seem comical to me with the Milo - Nadia interchange and the Buchanan - Hayes telephone conversation. And near the end when Gredenko betrayed Fayad in the dock hangout("A Muslim, a Russian and a CTU agent walk into a bar . ..").

COUNTDOWN TO THE COUP

Interesting thought about Nadia and Johnson working together on behalf of the terrorists. However, they would be working for Gredenko -- and not Fayed -- as it was Gredenko who came up with the idea of the drones and the component would have been destroyed by the nuclear explosion had our hero not intervened.

Are the Charles/Martha Logan and Phillip Bauer storylines done?
