A SURREAL DEBATE

Only only the blogs can we bypass the Media defeatism message.

MoveOn is on their summer surge and Reid and the Dems are dancing to their tune.

He just promised to repeat this process as MoveOn is demanding.

After funding the surge and appointing General P to handle it, they must be sensing the war in Iraq is turning our way to be willing to jump the shark on this issue contrary to legislation they passed earlier.

THE SURGE: THEN WHAT?

grognard

Actually it's more like they were worn down from fighting the left and the socialist dominance in the country.

Now it's getting to the point where it really doesn't matter as much as before, because of submission to the EU which is really turning sovereign states into subsets of the EU with more and more being dictated mandates from them that end up leaving very little for the individual states to call their own shots on.

Add on political correctness and multi cultureism gone wild and you have a big hole they may now be starting to dig themselves out of if the pendulum is finally swinging.

For another look about the whole concept of the surge, a little history lesson may be of help

Recommended reading, very well done.

WHY THE POLITICIZATION OF GOVERNMENT IS WRONG

ed Said:
1:38 pm

Please read Molly Ivin’s “Bushwhacked: Life in George W. Bush’s America.” Even if you don’t like liberals. Perhaps especially if you don’t like liberals. A more devastating exposition of Bush’s dismantling of science, the social safety net, and government in general cannot be found. With very clear evidence.

Where do I start here

Ed who has dismantled or more really manipulated science more than Al Gore?

Show me where the safety net was a required service, do you have something against learning a trade doing a job and not just sitting back looking for some legislative handout designed to leave you beholding and thus a locked in voter to maintain the status quo.

Remember charity , it works. Remember self reliance and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.

Get a degree in underwater basket weaving and complain you can't find a job.

I am sure you can justify all those positions.

NEW JIHADI VIDEO GIVES HEART TO TERRORISTS

It is simply borne out by the facts that we were hit multiple times before 9/11 and still they carried on their agenda.

The bully concept an earlier poster talked about is applicable.

Some think AQ is the whole end all be all but that is proving wrong simply because there are over a billion muslims to draw from and the numbers are not actually showing real grassroots support for AQ or their wannabe copycats.

More to the point is differences even between the terrorist elements we see today.

Where most get this whole situation wrong is they buy into the MSM generalizations about the whole Mideast.

Some could advise you well that this is not the binary choice Sunni/Shiite stuff the media is peddling.

There are many sects involved other than them.

AQ is based on the most radical sect of Wahabbiest (SP) teachings where the only goal is total conquest with not a bit of quarter given and no political accommodation of any kind.

All of the groups that try to work the combination of terrorism and politics to take over areas like the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Fatah, and even Hezzbolah are totally against their grain and sellouts as far as they are concerned.

Iran which has no love for Iraq only wishes destabilization of what they don’t want to have back as a potential enemy.

They will use religious divisions and AQ as a useful tool to keep Iraq weak and will do the same with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Iran will use their puppet players to gain political power by whatever means to control their zone of influence they wish to create.

Even worse Russia and China will play the game with them up to a point using them as puppets to confront and confound the west.

It is a complex mixture of religious and political gamesmanship which some think they can control, and for all our sakes, somebody better hope they can or it could end up really not pretty at all.

CAGE MATCH: ASSIMILATION VS. MULTICULTURALISM

Rick

An immigrant melding country can withstand ethnic diversity and is strengthened by it. But that requires melding into the whole by all ethnic groups.

MultiCulturism is negative enforcement that goes beyond the ethnic pride of your country of origin.

Right now there are ethnic groups that refuse in some cases to meld into society on a full basis.

For example black americans have been encouraged by some to observe black pride, which just on a cultural historical basis is a worthy thing, but when it is extended to not graduating from school or other self destructive behaviors to their community as a whole because it is viewed as acting "to white" or "copping to the man" that is a bad thing.

Hispanic groups have similar issue but not as pronounced.

Chinese , Vietnamese, Korean and such are melding over the generations but the social structure and their religion base are so different that they are likely to at least maintain religious practice separation but will tolerate all others and welcome converts to theirs.

Muslim populations are now an emerging issue where some believe a total non melding based on hard line culture separation dogma, with the only exception being that interaction necessary for gainful employment, and the concerns over attempts to evoke shira law are troubling.

SMELLS LIKE VINDICATION TO ME

Ed

If it was me you were addressing, no I believe the surge is need and quite frankly was forced to early by the political climate, but also on the other hand is meeting with timely rejection of AQ by the locals after 2 years of brutal tactics mainly against soft civilian targets.

As I see it right now the surge is playing parallel wack a mole to clear the belts and hold them. They are being very careful to not rush just to gain territory , but doing full review of each area as they progress to avoid the "just went to ground" bad guys.

The objective is to clear and hold the belts to give a buffer around Baghdad that any supplies and attacks will have to run the gauntlet to get to the prime target.

I for see several months of intense work to do this and then the existing Iraq army will be seasoned and battle tested and should be able to handle attempts to reoccupy the belt areas. Especially if the locals provide intel on new kids on the block.

Longer term I see at least a 50% growth in the army there and a triple sizing of the police with a purge of the embedded troublemakers in both and a more balanced ethnic makeup.

Right now the locals help and info is contributing to turning the tide of the issue. It is a necessary and good alliance and the intent after the surge is over with is to recruit the independent fighters into the army and police and take them out of the tribal hands when things calm down and let the real government forces handle the full job.

It is now a matter of building numbers and pruning out problem people and building trust that the government can deal with the situation.

Ed

Just how long did it take to stabilize Japan and Germany after WWII when hostility had stopped and they both had a history of government of various kinds.

We are trying to do this in an environment where conflict is on going and coming out of 30 years of dictatorship.

I see to many who are welcome to their opinion but tend to see things as "I can't do it, it's too hard".

However others can see the other side.
