FANTASTIC FABULIST DEBAT FOOLS THE FOOLISH

Rick, I'm astonished you don't think Taheri is a "neocon." Aren't you familiar with Mdme Benador? (as in Benador Associates?) You need to study up on this classic disinformation specialist, going all the way back to when he used to inform on Iranian resistance figures in the United States (and Taheri then was an agent for the Shah)

Secondly, it is simply WRONG to say that all Iranian religious minorities are persecuted simply, in and of itself, due to their religious identity. That's not to say that there haven't been serious problems for various individuals (and of course the Baha'i), especially leading "evangelical" figures who refused (back in 1989( to cut deals with the government. (Most religious minority groups have reached various accommodations with the IRI - that have mostly "held" even during the Ahmadinejad Presidency)

In short, the Taheri story was an utter, total fabrication, as even leading Jewish groups and Israeli scholars angrily disassociated themselves from it.

THE TOP FIVE TV GAME SHOWS OF ALL TIME

Truth or Consequences was Bob Barkers show before TPIR. Also I haven't seen mention of Family Feud or The Newlywed Game.

Somewhere Neville Chamberlain is smiling. Peace in Our Time, Part 2. Who will assume his 68 year legacy as the King of Appeasement?

THE INTELLECTUAL DISHONESTY OF THE OPEN BORDERS CROWD

I used to manage a restaurant in San Diego in the late 80's. The latino employees believed in the Reconquista. I heard many times about how this was going to be Mexico some day and that there was an invasion but we were too stupid to know it. I think there is a parallel between illegals and their support for Aztlan and "moderate" muslims and their support for the islamists. They may not be very vocal about it but deep in their hearts they support the renewal of Aztlan and restoration of the Caliphate. Very nice post.

AHMADINEJAD TARGET OF ASSASSIN?

The Holocaust story must be a house of cards after all - merely questioning it results in arrests and assasination attempts. It is, after all, a Billion dollar industry and the main justification for a homeland offered to ONE group and no one else.

HUNTING REPUBWICANS

Ah, you're only saying those things about Texas because they are true. How could you?

The current Texas Republican Party learned all of these tricks back when they were conservative Democrats. When the ConDems became Repubs, the LibDems didn't change their ethics. They kept doing the same thing.

Personally, I think we should have no (as in NO) bans on political donations. Let'em spend the money. The idea that somehow money corrupts politics more than ... I'm thinking here ... humans is stupid. Right now in America, money represents power. If we didn't use money, we would wouold measure power another way. Politics in nations with only one party, and no need to spend is more corrupt than any thing we've seen in American politics. George Soros and company certainly know how to circumvent campaign law.

KATRINA: RESPONSE TIMELINE

Very good timeline. I have just one quibble. You say: "...sends a memo to DHS Secretary Chertoff requesting the additonal 1,000 FEMA employees engaged in victims assistance (aiding residents in filling out disaster relief forms) and community outreach be dispatched to Louisiana. Brown indicates that the employees have two days to report to LA Homeland Security headquarters."

This is the version that was spun in the AP story. The actual memo requested an 1,000 volunteers from non-FEMA agencies to augment FEMA employees in disaster relief, with an additional 1,000 needed within seven days. Although a subtle difference, I believe that the memo actually makes it apparent that Director Brown knew his FEMA employees would be quickly overwhelmed and he needed additional non FEMA federal employee help. The issue with the memo not being released until Tuesday is a smoke screen. Mr. Brown really couldn't make the call that additional augmentation was needed until first light damage assessment overflights on Tuesday were completed. The logistics of mobilizing additional Federal employees on short notice is monumental. It is also important to note that these volunteers were not for first response, but for FEMAs normal post response getting mission of getting victims Federal assistance needed to put their lives back together, a mission that FEMA has never been very good at. And never forget, despite what the Media, Congress and the public believes, FEMA is not a first responder organization.

THE COMPACT OF CIVIL SOCIETIES

Hi Rick,
Very informed piece, but I think your simply wrong about your conclusion that people need 'hope' to prevent their animal insticts from taking over.
The generation of the Great Depression had no hope for years, people just simply got by. Iam not sure what Iam concluding, but it is along the lines of right and wrong, helping eaching out in times of crises.
How can one person or an organizatin interven, which many are now, prevent the chaos that may happen? (Aside from the police actually inforcing the law.)

I realize hope is all we have in daily life, but in times of crises there is something more we need, which your article has me thinking about that...

ANN COULTER ARRESTED!

I was actually almost fooled for a minute and figured she finally snapped after the recent string of crazy incidents at her speeches.
