SMALL TOWN HEROES FROM THE HEARTLAND

Usually you post pretty level-headed stuff, but it looks like to me you are picking a urban/rural fight here.

Heck, I found one of the most intelligent essays ever on the liberal/conservative views of patriotism right here (a link to Newsweek), yet you seem to dismantle that, if only a little.

Really, "dream of burning the flag"? Do you really think cities are stuffed with folks who like to go a-flag burnin' once they get out of the latte shop? Wouldn't we see a lot of flag-burning in Central Park, then? Only the craziest of crazies are like that. A more nuanced position might be those who think flag-burning is wrong and unpatriotic, but grudgingly admit there's nothing illegal about it.

I'd like to see some references to rational city-dwellers that actually do advocate what you think they are saying. People who love to burn flags... show me!

WHY DO CONSERVATIVES SEE RED WHEN OBAMA TALKS GREEN?

I viewed the "Drill here, Drill now" champions much the same way you laugh at Obama's picayune budget cuts -- a good sound bite, but ultimately a non-solution to a big problem. So Nuke Here, Nuke Now. I can get behind that.

LOOKING BACK AT CPAC

Wait, what?

Much red meat – little substance.

Red meat is substance. You seem to be complaining that there's not enough sizzle on the steak. I think I see why:

I can tell you that most of the debate about where the movement (and to a lesser extent the Republican party) should be headed took place among activists, lawyers, lobbyists, political pros, non-profit staff, and pundits

Jesus, we're just freaking doomed.

You're right -- the tea-party peons should just sit down and shut up while you activists, lawyers, lobbyists, and blah-blah-blah-blah-blah figure out what to do. You'll let us know, I'm sure. I can't wait.

THE POST MY DETRACTORS WISH I HAD WRITTEN ABOUT THE TEA PARTIES

They don’t want to be reborn.

"Come to the light, Rick. Dammitt, no -- we've told you 1000 times - you can't bring your principles. We'll give you a new ethos."

Was Mr. Moran always a writer? I was led to believe that he picked this up as a hobby, and only lately has become fairly compensated for it.

Regardless, if you've read here long enough, you can see what's coming next: the extended benevolent hand up for the peons of the tea parties, provided they tug their forelock hard enough, instead of the contemptuous back of the hand they've received so far, thus covering all bases and all peoples as well as his own rear, in case it actually turns into something worthwhile.

It's an interesting pathology, anyway. Very writerly.

WEAK TEA

Oh, one more thing - and don't get excited, I'm still done with you and your pathetic site - I wanted to give you an update on our little tea party in Greenville, SC. At its start at 6 PM there were around 800 people - at its height 2000. Add up the numbers countrywide, Mr. Armchair Patriot. Some of us actually got off our backsides and did something.

Two posts about CPAC, an event planned for over a year, yet you can't even be bothered to pimp the Chicago or DC Tea Party, a pure grassroots dealio that started about a week ago. What? Nobody could cover your costs?

You know, thanks for all the help, big guy. We'll do this on our own, and you and your 9000 CPAC buddies can sit around comparing Blackberries and the sizes of your enormous brains. So sorry to have traipsed mud into the drawring room, guv.

And now we know where some people were. People like you, who are all armchair quarterbacks, and are always full of just tons of wisdom that you deign to share with us periodically, all sat at home on your butts thinking you'd see what everyone else was made of. And now, having put forth no effort whatsoever, you sit at home and pound out some holier-than-thou pronouncements condemning those of us across the country who managed to make one of these rallies.

If this country is dead - if this country is doomed to die and be reborn as some socialist disaster - then YOU are the one that killed it. You and all your ilk who would stay home and preach rather than get out and work. What a mooch.

Congratulations, you are off my favorites. We don't need your sort.

THE SANTELLI RANT: A RED BULL RUSH

Now here’s a guy willing to put his Republican money where his mouth is.

“Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Friday that he will decline stimulus money specifically targeted at expanding state unemployment insurance coverage, becoming the first state executive to officially refuse any part of the federal government’s payout to states.

In a statement, Jindal, who is slated to give the Republican response to President Barack Obama’s message to Congress on Tuesday, expressed concern that expanding unemployment insurance coverage would lead to increased unemployment insurance taxes later on.

Now that’s principle!!

Now thats a guy we need in the whitehouse..not this current boob..

SHOULD OBAMA RETAKE THE OATH?

John: Rick's essays are as far removed from nuttiness as you can get. Read the archives. I really enjoy him pointing out some of the left's silliness, without resorting to it himself.

The nuthouse... is usually here in the comments.
