THE LIEBERMAN INQUISITION

I think the real fun in this three act play will be in the last act - how Lieberman is received as the new Independent Senator from Connecticut.

How will his former fellow Democrats view his victory - Like Kerry?
Will he lose standing on committees he currently sits on?
And how will these reactions sit with Lieberman?

Don't you just love it!

YOU WIN SOME, YOU LOSE SOME...YOU DIE SOME

And, in the future, we will hear much of another wonderful phrase reminding us of the medieval nature of our libertarian protectors:

"Bring Our Your Dead!"

But we will be so free (Hallelujah, Praise de Lord) of intruding government while we dig ourselves out of another 9/11.

FRANCE SURRENDERS: ISRAEL TO FIGHT ON

To date, the Israelis have committed a limited ground force for a limited incursion into Lebanon. Only about the equivilent of one division (8-10,000 troops) have been deployed into the area within 3-4 miles of the border.

If the Israelis are serious with their security cabinet approving essentially an escallation of the war, expect more divisions to be sent into the battle - as many as 4 divisions total. This would be 40-50,000 troops complete with full mechanized (Tanks/Armoured Personnel Carrier) support.

With that in mind, achieving the Litani River within 30 days is doable. But to do so, the Israelis have to take the gloves off and push hard against the Hizbullah forces.

Note: And yes, believe it or not, the gloves have been on. The Israelis have so far shown much more restraint than I would have expected.

ANTI-SEMITISM ON THE LEFT

"One can only hope that the left in America once again will face the “right way” and come home to its original lofty and noble support for one of its truly decent impulses of the 20th century"

And to do so would be to agree with President Bush. I'm afraid BDS has reached such a degree that even supporting the only true democracy in the middle east against one of the worst terrorist organizations in the world can't happen because Bush has weighed in on the side of Israel.

It doesn't matter that Hezbullah has killed more Americans in terrorist actions than any other group besides Al Qaeda - to side with Israel is to side with Bush. It doen't matter that Hezbullah started this by invading Israeli territory, killing and kidnapping Israeli soldiers. It doesn't matter that Israel is attacking Hezbullah using precision guided munitions in order to minimize civilian casualties while Hezbullah si firing unguided rockets into urban centers. It doesn't matter that Hezbullah has secreted their munitions and Katyusha firing sites within civilian homes, hiding behind civilians and even refusing to allow these civilians to evacuate the area. It just doesn't matter how right it is to back Israel against terrorism, the left will not support them in any way.

"Never again" are two words that should have more than symbolic meaning to the world but as far as the left is concerned, the only words that mean anything in this instance is Golda Meir's "No alternative".

A LAZY FRIDAY AFTERNOON MILLENNIAL INTERLUDE

Excellent choices all, Rick. But somewhere on the list I would have to find room for Charles Darwin. His effect on science and how we perceive the world around us is incalcuable.

KRISTOL'S FOLLY

I agree that it is "One war, lots of fronts." But in this case, let our Israeli allies take care of this particular problem while we watch their backs.

How can we "watch their backs" except doing what we are doing - providing diplomatic cover for them. But is that all? Iran desperately wants to jump into the middle of this fracas. They basically instigated it. And for them the next logical step in leading the pan-islamic jihad is to take the military lead in this confrontation with the Zionists. Transporting a few thousand troops across friendly borders to get at the Jews could be a likely scenario.

And Israel could not easily strike back. Yes, they have a great Air Force. But Iran is over 900 kilometers away - and that is measuring border to border. From IAF bases to potential taget areas in Iran is over 1,100 klicks - one way. And the Israelis do not have a strategic air refueling capability.

But they do have US forces on both sides of Iran (Iraq and Afghanistan) and the US Navy carrier task forces in the Med and other areas close by (Indian Ocean, etc.) And the fact that of our presence alone should keep the Iranian's attention.

But on a more sober note what if Iran intends this to be the "Big One" and is looking for any excuse to start the fireworks?
