PALIN AND HER SUPPORTERS IN A TIME WARP

I know Rush has pounded into your heads that liberals are the real bigots and racists, worse than the Klan, but that's of course nuts. Incidentally, I don't need any saving, and as a former soldier I spent 13 years protecting you and every other conservative lunatic I disagree with.

As for the angelic conservative bible quoting, gun toting, loving Republicans.

Well...

Rachel Maddow reports on the latest racist and disturbing attacks on President Obama, including the merchandising of Psalm 109:8 on T-shirts and teddy bears. The Biblical verses are threatening when taken out of context as they do and applied to the President.

MADDOW: “And then there’s this, a Biblical quote making the rounds in anti-Obama circles, as reported this week in The Christian Science Monitor: Pray For President Obama – Psalm 109 Verse 8. What’s Psalm 109:8? Well, it reads ‘Let His Days Be Few, And Let Another Take His Office.’ Let his days be few. Uh, it’s followed immediately by another verse: ‘Let His Children Be Fatherless, And His Wife A Widow.’

What we’re looking at right now is two things going on. We see the evangelical groups that I talk about in my new book, ‘Patience With God,’ enthralled by an apocalyptic vision that I go into in some detail in there. They represent the millions of people who have turned the ‘Left Behind’ series into best-sellers. Most of them are not crazy, they’re just deluded. But there is a crazy fringe to whom all these little messages that have been pouring out of Fox News, now on a bumper sticker, talking about doing away with Obama, asking God to kill him…

Really, this is trawling for assassins. And this is serious business. It’s un-American, it’s unpatriotic, and it goes to show that the religious right, the Republican far-right, have coalesced into a group that truly wants American revolution, and if it turns out to be blood in the streets and death, so be it. This is not funny stuff any more. They cannot be dismissed as just crazies on the fringe. It only takes one.”

SCHAEFFER: “Absolutely. Look. This is the American version of the Taliban. The Taliban quotes the Qu’ran, and al Qaeda quotes certain verses in the Qu’ran, in or out of context, calling for jihad, and bloody war, and the curse of Allah on infidels. This is the Old Testament, Biblical equivalent of calling for holy war. Now, most Americans’ll just see the bumper sticker and smile and think that it’s facetious. Unfortunately, there are 22 million Americans or so who call themselves super-conservative evangelicals. Of this, a small minority might be violent. But, the general atmosphere here is really getting heated.

And what surprises me is that responsible, if you can put it that way, Republican leadership and the editors of some of these Christian magazines, etc. etc., do not stand up in holy horror and denounce this.

You know, they’re always asking ‘Where is the Islamic leadership denouncing terrorism? Why aren’t the moderates speaking out?’ Well, I challenge the folks who I used to work with… I would just say to them: ‘Where the hell are you? This is not funny anymore. And be it on your head if something happens to our President…”

In total, I would have to say that the Sarah Palin phenomenon is poison for conservatism and deadly to the Republican party.

I most certainly hope so.

THE GOOD LIBERAL

How sad.

Won't find me shedding any tears. They inflicted George Bush on us for eight years so of course the answer to the mess they made is to give them the reins again so they can "fix" it? Ha. We'll lose seats in 2010 then we'll crush them in the next presidential year.

And honest-to-God, I don’t even know what you’re talking about with your Marxist Critical Theory. Me? I’m a capitalist.

Thirty years of people like Limbaugh and Hannity telling them that it's all some one else's fault, the hippies lost the war, the Mexicans have our jobs, the gays want your kids, have set their opinions into cement.

Their heads have turned to rock and no facts known will sway their opinion that liberals are worse than the clan, we all hate our country and that only Republicans are fit to run it.

It's well known I will never, ever vote for a Republican because I really don't like their politics. But with few exceptions (George Bush being a massive one) I can live with the times they win at the ballot box because the political process usually stops the most egregious excesses in either direction.

This time around the conservatives have decided that not only is Obama a liberal, he is a demon unfit to hold the office. The belief in the danger to the country of ObamaHitlerMao is serious and dangerous in a way it's never been before.

The rise of the militias again is one sign of trouble to come. Tim McVeigh sized trouble.

IS THERE ANY WAY SARAH PALIN CAN RECOVER?

She wrote a 400+ page book? No kidding?

Wow, that's like 1/5 the size of the Democrat's health bill. Now maybe Republicans will shut up about having to read the thing.

Most of you would have and since when do conservatives have a problem with ‘the elite’?

They don't.

Elites are anyone the GOP wants you to be jealous of or assume are too snooty for working men and women.

Republicans just want teabaggers to think that the party of the rich (The GOP), who know they are smarter than you, are actually looking out for them against the party of people they think, think they are smarter than them (The Democrats).

Exactly how many non-Ivy league and elite college grads types run the GOP apparatus at the highest levels?

Both George Bushes, Yale.

Michael Steele, Johns Hopkins University

Mitt Romney, Stanford

Bobby "The Exorcist" Jindal, Brown

Real community college type there.

WHAT'S IN A BOW?

The scary part isn’t the bow. It’s the personnel operation. Obama’s inability to put together a decent protocol operation

Let's hire the guy who advised George W. Bush on surprise back rubs to world leaders.

You despise Obama and if he said the sun was going to rise int he morning you'd find fault with whether he consulted with the NASA first before making the prediction.

We have two wars going on and an economy on life support.

I don't give a goddamn about Obama's show of courtesy. We had eight years of Yippee Kai Yay complete with bold displays of how gigantic our cajones are to the world, with dismal results.

And you think none of the ineptitude, preaching, corruption, and other “bad things” won’t infect the federal government’s handling of health care?

Sure it will But there will no longer be a wink and a nod from the White that's it's okay to shove religion where it doesn't belong.

The conservative mindset seems to be if you can't predict perfection in the implementation of government programs best not to try to fix the problem.

Lord knows what will happen if some illegal Mexican gets a doctor visit or a "bureaucrat" is as cold hearted as Aetna in dispensing services to granny.

No, better to do nothing at all.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again — NOBODY said he was the second coming of Jesus except you nimrods.

True dat.

I’m outraged that we want to turn more of a health care in America over to an institution that proves itself, over and over again, as incapable of managing something on that scale.

Really? I read the story to mean that we'd kindly like that when Republicans run the government they stop trying to make troops "Praise Jesus" and treat their frakking illnesses instead.

I am sure the doctors who had to work under Bush appointees will be quite pleased to have the money and resources to start treating PTSD with something other than snake handling and speaking in tongues and most importantly not having a political mandate to say the illness doesn't exist in the first place.

The problem isn't government, it's dingbats who believe government's job is to advance Christianity. Pray over the troops if you want to, it might just help but recognize that casting out demons is going to render poor therapeutic results.

Of course Governor Jindal would probably disagree.
