A STUDIED INDIFFERENCE TO THE FACTS

I Agree:
From my post: The UN: Right Facts - Wrong conclusion:
The report reviews data from 1815 to 2002 and finds several factors contributing to the diminishing incidents of armed conflict. First is the rise of democratically elected governments. Second is increasing economic interdependence, which directly relates to the Third reality of the diminishing economic utility of war. Last of all they find a rise in International Institutions and conclude this last point must be the essential source of the greater peace. … Democracy, free trade, and retribution for aggression are pretty much the hallmarks of American foreign policy since the end of the cold war.

INSIDE "INSIDE BASEBALL"

If you tell me Roger Angell wrote this I will believe it. When Johnny Damon came up to bat, I made Lola stop working in the kitchen and come watch his at bat. Sometimes you know a classic even before the moment ends. I would have loved to see the meeting end with Damon whiffing away and ending up on his butt in the dust, but standing at the plate with the sheepish look of having been fooled is also appropriately satisfying.

I KNOW WHAT WENT WRONG

Exactly. It was a disaster. Disaster causes chaos. Chaos disrupts order. Order takes time to restore.

I keep thinking that there is a remarkable relief effort being made in the whole region and the standard to compare to is not writing on paper but the reality of Monday morning.

KATRINA: RESPONSE TIMELINE

Checking the US Army Corp of Engineers website, they updated their information on or around Friday August 26, 2005 with specifics about positioning supplies in anticipation of Katrina hitting the coast. It is also important to note that the Corp of Engineers began making contacts required for "un-watering" New Orleans. Clearly this agency of the Federal Government was aware and preparing 3 to 4 days in advance for potential flooding.
