WHY IS THE PRESIDENT GOING TO COPENHAGEN TO LOBBY FOR THE OLYMPICS?

On April 14, 2007, Chicago was selected by the United States Olympic Committee as the United States Bid City, and on June 4, 2008, the IOC named Chicago as one of four finalists to host the 2016 Olympic games.

Here's my theory..

According to unnamed experts with inside knowledge, a fortune teller told president Bush that Obama would be elected president next, so he got the Cheney assassination team to strong arm Peter Ueberroth into guaranteeing that Chicago would be the bid city, knowing full well that this would be the impetus for right wing blogs to crush the Obama presidency with accusations of corruption, resulting in a resounding wins for republicans in 2010 and 2012.

Conspiracy hatched!

Rick says:

"It is obvious you are ignorant of Chicago and its stinking corruption."

Not at all Rick...I'm aware of the history of political corruption in Chicago...I'd just rather see America win...Why would you want to see America lose?

Then Rick says:

"btw - the pittance of a few billion dollars should not engage the leader of a nation that sports a $13 trillion economy. That’s nuts."

What's really nuts is anyone who can call billions of dollars a "pittance" under any circumstances...it borders on elitism..

If Obama cut 3 billion dollars from the Pentagon budget, would it still be a "pittance" to you??

Then:

"Of course Obama can stay in communication with anyone and everyone."

"The problem is one of perception - Obama dropping everything to attend to a matter that is not worth the weight he is attaching to it."

If "the problem is one of perception"...Maybe it's your perception of it that's one of the problems Rick...Maybe the whole matter is worth less weight than you're attaching to it.

The only people "perceiving" this as a "problem" are those folks on the right...The international community doesn't perceive this to be a problem, most Americans don't perceive this to be a problem...You yourself admit that it's not going to effect Obamas governing ability..

It's just another one of those perception problems that people have when they're in the opposition camp...that's all

So now we're down to the perception that gangsters and corrupt politicians may line their pockets with some of this Olympic cash...and we both know that would happen in any city, in any country..

So that brings us to the final perception on the right that corrupt lefty politicians will be reaping benefit from this...and that's the core of this story..

Rick:

"Chicago is corrupt. Chicago is receiving the olympic money. Obama is going to Denmark to promote the corrupt city of Chicago’s bid to get the olympics."

Look on the bright side Rick...at least now you have satellite tv to watch the games on..

"...the Right has a quota of at least one item of manufactured outrage per week. Without nonsense like this they might start thinking about actual issues. Which would not turn out well for the party of Glen Beck."

Bingo!

The lack of outrage on your part and Micheal's and Richard's that hundreds of millions of dollars is going to end up in the pockets of mobsters, and their political friends, and the most corrupt political machine in America if the olympics comes there is quite telling. It is obvious you are ignorant of Chicago and its stinking corruption. Or maybe, you endorse it. That's the only conclusion one can draw from your excusing the president's promotion of this two bit sideshow while what's happening in the real world demands his attention.

btw - the pittance of a few billion dollars should not engage the leader of a nation that sports a $13 trillion economy. That's nuts. It is, as transplanted lawyer says above, a sideshow and beneath the dignity of the office.

HOW SERIOUS IS THE WORLD IN STOPPING AN IRANIAN BOMB?

Manning says:

"I pity Israel facing the hostile Islamic nations around them alone, thanks to the idiot in the White House."

This is the kind of statement that proves undoubtedly that you have no clue what you're talking about..

The population of Israel stands at 7,411,000, according to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS)...Some 5,593,000 of the population (75.5 percent) are Jewish Israelis, 1,498,000 (20.2%) are Israeli Arabs and the remaining 320,000 (4.3%) are immigrants, their offspring, and foriegn workers..

Of that 20% Arab population, 85% are Muslim, particularly of the Sunni branch of Islam..

Islam Mannning...BOO!

Israel is now a wealthy industrial state with a per capita income roughly equal to South Korea or Spain..

Israel has been the largest annual recipient of direct U.S. economic and military assistance since 1976, and the largest total recipient since World War ll..

The U.S. is providing Israel with at least $7.0 million each day in military aid, and is giving the Palestinians $0 in military aid during Fiscal Year 2009..

Poor, poor Israel...we should pity them!

Israel receives about $3 billion in direct U.S. foreign assistance each year, which is roughly one-fifth of America's entire foreign aid budget..

That's American taxpayer money Mannning...Do I have your attention now?

Where's the Teabaggers when you really need them...huh?

Over the last 20 years, as the Israeli economy has grown, the U.S. has been slowly phasing out some economic aid to Israel, and gradually replacing it with increased military aid..

Beginning in 2007, the U.S. has been increasing military aid to Israel by $150 million each year..

Taxpayer money..

by early February 2009, the US had already given Israel at least $2.55 billion in military aid for Fiscal Year 2009..

Taxpayer money...

By the way Mannning, did you know that homosexuals have served openly in the Israeli Defense Forces since 1933...gross huh?

Contrary to ordinary U.S. policy, Israel has been and continues to be allowed to use over 26% of this military aid to purchase equipment from Israeli manufacturers instead of American defense contractors. According to Congressional Research Service (CRS), no other recipient of U.S. military assistance has been granted this benefit. Thanks in part to this indirect U.S. subsidy, Israel’s arms industry has become one of the strongest in the world. In 2007, it was the 8th largest arms supplier to the developing world..

The Congressional Research Service’s conservative estimate of total cumulative U.S.
aid to Israel (not adjusted for inflation) from 1949 through 2009 is $106 billion and change..

Taxpayer money..

U.S. tax dollars are subsidizing what is already one of the most powerful, well armed, and technologically superior foreign militaries on earth..

But it doesn't stop there..

The "indirect" costs to the American taxpayer as a result of Washington’s support for Israel exceed by many times the amount of "direct" U.S. aid to Israel..

Some of these "indirect" costs would include the costs to U.S. manufacturers of the Arab boycott, the costs to U.S. companies and consumers of the Arab oil embargo, and consequent soaring oil prices as a result of U.S. support for Israel in the 1973 war, and the costs of U.S. unilateral economic sanctions on Iran, Iraq, Libya and Syria..

More taxpayer money Mannning...estimated in the trillions..

So excuuuuuse me if I don't "pity" poor poor "all alone" Israel for having all those "hostile Islamic nations around them," because Israel has enough nukes to turn whole region into glass if it needs to, and they haven't been left "alone" by America...ever.

I should know, because I've been helping to pay their way my entire working career...as I imagine you have too..

Enjoy your pity party..

DOES THE WORLD LOVE US ANY MORE WITH OBAMA AS PRESIDENT?

Engagement is a tactic...not a policy objective..

All you guys think you know the Obama strategy, but I'm guessing that what you don't know would fill a book..

SHOULD NEWSPAPERS GO NON-PROFIT?

Regional community newspapers will survive.

Every town has their rag that will tell you who is playing at the blues club, what's on at the movies, or how good that new restaurant is. They usually cover local newsworthy events and politics, opinion, world news, lifestyle pieces, classifed ads..ect..

This is free, useful information that's convenient to have at a local level...and consumers want it..

My local independent is not not hurting for advertising dollars...and is widely read in my town..

From my experience, most of these local papers seem have a slightly liberal bias...but that may be just because of the places I've chosen to live..

Let the big national papers die off...no government intervention allowed...

DEBATE OVER TEA PARTY PROTEST NUMBERS MASKS THE REAL HISTORY MADE

Rick said:

"...the historical significance of the event; that it represents the first truly mass movement of conservatives in American history."

Then Rick said:

"This is not “dangerous” by any stretch of the imagination"

I say:

If it's "the first" time this has happened...How do you know for sure that it's not dangerous??

War protesters vandalized property on a regular basis...but you guys have the guns...and you have no problem toting them around at events like this..

I'm not saying it will, but anything can happen...especially with Beck, Hannity, Rush and Savage at the helm..

What happens if health care reform passes?

God forbid we get a public option...the T-partiers would go apeshit..

IMPRESSIVE TURNOUT IN DC FOR PROTEST

I forgot to number the fourth quote from Liz....there are actually 9 quotes from her that I was responding to above...not 8

Comment Posted By Moltenorb On 13.09.2009 @ 07:36

Elisabeth says:

1. "You need to study your history re: the founders and what they intended."

I did that 35 years ago Liz...and I've been a student of history ever since...So why don't you just tell me what it is that YOU think the founders intended, since you seem to think that you're so much smarter than I am..

2. "Representatives, Senators and Presidents should behave as SERVANT leaders, emphasis on SERVANTS."

That was my point...politicians cannot serve the people if their first alligence is to corporate interests..

3. "In fact, corporate leaders should also adopt the same attitude."

Corporate leaders serve their shareholders Liz...not the public interest...They DO NOT take an oath to uphold the Constituion of the United States..

"Certainly, many industries should be regulated… but that should be appropriate regulation not regulation for the sake of regulation or regulation tied to some politician’s self interest."

Which is what our president is trying to do...regulate industries such as health care, finance and insurance so that they better benefit the people..

4. "Why should our politicians be ANY different? Or our corporate leaders?"

You seem to have a basic misunderstanding of the difference between public service and private business Liz...maybe it's you that needs to study her history..

5. "As for the billions vs. trillions, what are you saying?"

I'm saying that I don't think that you know the difference between a million, a billion and a trillion...that's what I'm saying...which is why I supplied you a link to clarify it for you..

6. "defense waste didn’t start with Reagan & Bush I, stop with Clinton, start back with Bush II, stop with Obama… who are you kidding. Your logic is flawed in my estimation because you are so fixated on the past"

Again...you show a basic misunderstanding between "waste" and "fraud"...they are two different things...try your dictionary for clarification...I was speaking to the costs of corporate fraud to the US taxpayer..

And first you tell me I need to "study my history"...then you say that I'm too "fixated on the past"...Make up your mind Liz..

7. "Finally, please check your bank account, your money market, your savings… whatever you have could you please take it and use it to feed/shelter/provide healthcare for, let’s say, a couple of thousand people?"

That's not my job Liz...I pay taxes to the government to do that stuff...They have food stamps, government housing assistance programs, and our president is working on health care as we speak..

8. "The bottom line is that NO ONE in DC are making decisions to empower people… NO ONE. There are smart, ingenius ways to solve problems… but they won’t be coming from this government and I won’t argue with you… they didn’t come from the repubs either. It will require Americans, including those on both sides of the great divide, demanding that our SERVANT leaders AND our corporate leaders DO THE RIGHT AND JUST THINGS. That is what the demonstrations today were about."

No...that's what the presidential election was about...the demonstration was about pissed off people who didn't vote for Obama...A healthy majority of registered voters decided they wanted the things Obama was campaigning on, and those that didn't vote for him now think that they are the majority..

Well you're not the majority Liz...you're the opposition, the minority.. Y

ou can't please all the people all the time...so majority rules in this country..

Majority rule processes do not require consensus for group action. Instead, decisions are made by voting with a majority to determine the position of the entire group. There are norms and rules in place which prevent the majority from disregarding the basic rights of the minority.

It's the American way...get used to it.
