THE MYSTIC CHORDS OF MEMORY

But what did we do to make them dislike us? Surely this would be a good day for Obama to apologize to the Japanese.

THOUGHTS ON THE PASSAGE OF HEALTH CARE REFORM

"National Health Care Reform represents a new way of governing; the blind, leading the deaf and dumb, toward an unknowable future - driving the engine of government at full speed, and without any brakes."

Agree! The only thing I would change is "toward a predictable future (like all federally-mandated entitlements - higher costs, higher debt, higher taxes)"

OBAMA'S TIMELY VISIT TO DOVER

"Bush never got the credit he deserved for this painful presidential chore ...."

That would be because he did it in private - never made media moments out of the visits. The fact that Obama did speaks badly of his character.

WHY IS THE PRESIDENT GOING TO COPENHAGEN TO LOBBY FOR THE OLYMPICS?

Easy answer, Rick. This is fun and all that other stuff is hard.

WHEREVER JACKIE PAPER IS TODAY, HE IS WEEPING

A beautiful remembrance, Rick! I was sad to see so little coverage of MT's death. A truly wonderful voice! Politics matter little in the face of such a talent.

THE LEFT IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT JOE WILSON

Funny! My favorite line: "People like Wilson need to get out of the way and let our Glorious Leader fulfill his destiny."

I'll grant that Wilson was rude. However, he was also right, as proven today when Dems scurried to change the language in the bills: “We really thought we’d resolved this question of people who are here illegally, but as we reflected on the President’s speech last night we wanted to go back and drill down again,” said Senator Kent Conrad, one of the Democrats in the talks after a meeting Thursday morning. [Max] Baucus later that afternoon said the group would put in a proof of citizenship requirement to participate in the new health exchange."

Why put it in if it was already there??

REMEMBER 9/11

CT said: "Atheism would make us safer."

Oh yeah, like it did for victims of Stalin's gulags and the Great Terror (28-30 million). Like it did for victims of Hitler's little foray into world domination (6-7 million). Like it did for victims of Mao's Cultural Revolution (30+ million).

Atheist wackos can be murderous vermin just as easily as fundamentalist wackos can.

OBAMA IMPLANTS HIS POLITICAL VISION FOR AMERICA -- BUT WILL IT TAKE?

Rick, I was with you right up to your last sentence. What is worth celebrating about an American leader arriving at essentially un-American conclusions?

Obama is truthful when he says that he wants to "shape the future". Unfortunately, he wants a future shaped like something that 200+ years of American thought rejects. Individual freedom and communitarianism are polar opposites. I don't feel celebratory about anyone who wants to take this country in the opposite direction to that of our founders.

WOULD SOMEONE ON THE LEFT PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME?

Rick, you answered your own question when you said: "...“movement liberalism” is so out of touch with ordinary people - treating those of us in flyover country with such nauseating contempt - that they are totally blind to the sensibilities of the majority."

That's how BO could insult "bitter clingers", "typical whites", etc. That's how just a few days ago, Rep. Baron Hill (D-IN) could say to his constituents: "This is my town hall meeting, I set the rules."

These little men are elitist snobs who believe that they simply know better than we what is good for us. They also believe that we won't notice that all major government programs (Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Amtrak, the Post Office) are broke, and that we don't understand that this will happen with health care/insurance "reform" as well. A pox on all of them!

PALIN WINS -- AND LOSES ME

Jesus died 2,000 years ago. But he gave great advice when he said, “To thine own self be true.”

What??? That would be Shakespeare, not Jesus Christ. Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 3.
