Kindof a sidenote: the joke was probably not offensive to W.Virginians (I have several friends from WVA that make the same self-deprecating joke), although it was certainly not presidential (or even vice-p).
Also, for clarification, ANYBODY from the south knows that a goober pea is a peanut.

Two observations: first, Obama is so liberal that he makes Hill look moderate in comparison. But she is more socialist/taxer/spender/big gov than just the healthcare policy- one example, she proposes raising capital gains tax to 29%, whereas Obama wants to raise it higher than that (I think in the 40's). So she's not moderate, she's just less socialist. Second, I don't believe she is a "born-again" populist, but rather a simple opportunist- she believed these mainstream (and sane) policy stands would win her votes. To me, that makes her less attractive, in the sense that Obama at least believes in his silly lefty policies- Hill puts her finger in the wind and decides what she thinks will garner votes.
Note also that it would have worked for her if the MSM had not deserted her, and if she could have raised even 50% of Obama's campaign contributions- she was outspent 3, 4, and 5 to 1 in some cases, yet won 7 out of the last 10 (as well as the popular vote by some counts). Career politicians know that this is the single biggest factor in winning (which does NOT bode well for McCain, btw).

Rick, I'm so damn tired of politics. A respectful request that might be fun for you and your readers: How about a post on why we should establish a colony on the moon? Or why Barry "the clear" Bonds, Mark "juiced-up" McGuire, Sammy "call me corky" Sosa et. al. should be banned from the Hall of Fame? Or why you don't believe in God? Or anything non-political.
We've got 5 more intense months of political fun (mostly fun). I've read all your "space" and "science" posts, so I need some new material.
Been thinking of taking a break from politics on this site. We'll see.

May be a hoax. Larry Johnson at NoQuarter blog doesn't think so, and has already discovered the spin: Michelle didn't say "whitey", she said "why'd he" do this and that (http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/06/02/booman-blows-the-obama-disinformation-campaign/).
Even if it is a hoax, it appears undeniable that Michelle was sharing the stage with Farrakhan.
That's an "ouch-er" even without the "whitey".
Larry Johnson also swore on a stack of bibles that Karl Rove was about to be indicted "within 48 hours" back during the Libby investigation. He says at that time he saw the indictment. Johnson has a history of telling tall tales. That's another reason to be skeptical.

I saw Bob Becktel on Fox morning show. Becktel is a spinmaster, and a complete shill for the dems. He was as despondent as I have ever seen him about a "Michelle Obama bombshell" that is going to be released to the media this week. Apparently, Michelle doesn't like "whitey" too much, and has been captured on video in a racist rant at Trinity church. I've heard the rumor before, but discounted it. If this is true, I will be more entertained watching how the Obama camp spins this than anything else this year.
Maybe the messiah should have an open dialogue about race with his wife.
Don't get your hopes up. I think it's a hoax.

Obviously, the MSM will parade and champion their darling Obamessiah, but even some conservative-leaning sites are assisting his holiness (see http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0608/10744.html). Couple that with the disillusion of the hard right with this year's GOP choice, and nothing is surprising about his near-anonymity.
I think things will improve as we get closer to November. I can remember saying (months ago) that I would boycott the election this year, but I know that I will hold my nose and vote for McMoses. Take me to the promised land, baby.
