Robin of Berkeley (whom I love) called, and said it is highly inadvisable to use blog readers as therapists and blogposts as therapy sessions. Part of me is reading this post like it's an obituary and "if you can't say anything nice . . . ." There are just a handful of blogs that are a financial success. The talented Captain Ed has hooked up with best selling author Malkin and does a fine job with HotAir. The talented Stacy McCain scrambles to do reporting and blogging and begging for tip jar support, and gives the impression that it's a real struggle to make a living at it. Relative newcomer Donald Douglas at americanpowerblog.blogspot.com openly confesses that he's not blogging to make a living, he holds his steady job and blogs voraciously as an avocation. For 5 cents, Charlie Brown's Lucy would tell you to separate your livelihood from blogging. And the entrepreneur in me is asking, why haven't you focused your considerable talents to rush publish an Obama/Acorn exposé, and use your broadcast experience to hit the book tours.
I make a decent living writing and editing for American Thinker and Pajamas Media. I am not concerned about my livelihood as much as I am about the toll that blogging takes mentally and emotionally.

"The Congressional Budget Act of 1974 created reconciliation (See Pub.L. 93-344, § 310; 88 Stat. 297; 2 U.S.C. § 641.) but Congress came to use it in the 1980s. Congress used reconciliation to enact President Bill Clinton's 1993 (fiscal year 1994) budget. (See Pub.L. 103-66, 107 Stat. 312.) President Clinton wanted to use reconciliation to pass his health care plan, but Senator Robert Byrd insisted that the health care plan was out of bounds for a process that is theoretically about budgets."

Gerald Ford said that a government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take everything you've got. Who knows, nationalized healthcare may be a Stalinist tactic to cull the social security herd so the books can balance. With time and gradual conditioning, human life can become such an ordinary thing to waste. You'll know it's on when they come for the traditional Catholics, so only the Biden/Pelosi/Notre Dame pretenders remain.

REFLECTIONS ON GOD, MAN, AND CPAC
Small government, pro-growth, pro-employment, pro-military, anti-welfare, and anti-crime values are not easy to make popular and attractive. One values them after realizing the folly of the alternative. Most people hate their jobs until they're unemployed. Most people want to punish companies labeled "anti-green" until it translates to more unemployment. Couple that with a predominant media that signals it's cool to adore lightweights like Barry and Caroline, and to scorn Sarah and Bobby.
So I have to agree with the "manning" comment above, tweaking conservatism to somehow appeal to this crop of youth is also folly, and I suspect most conservatives with young adult children will agree.

CPAC AGENDA SHOWS CONSERVATIVES STILL IN DENIAL
Wow, what a thread between Rick and Bob C. At the risk of being f bombed and slogan slandered by the editor (despite being a tip jar member, I might ad), I prefer the click my heels 3 times approach embraced by Goldwater, Buckley, Reagan and Bob C. Trying to package a new flavor of conservatism to appeal to this fickle electorate is counterproductive. Let them have their fill of the remedy they chose -- that will be more persuasive than some "new" conservatism that is yet to be articulated or agreed upon.
Now as issues are presented, conservatives need a sound spokesperson to respond -- I suggest bypassing senators and house leaders, and have GOP governors giving the "what would conservatives do" retort to the leftist agenda. The governors of MN, SC, LA, AK and Puerto Rico should be the public eye on a regular basis. I think we're all tired of seeing Boehner and McConnell as the faces of conservatism, plus governors are great prospects for a national ticket.
But again, this is all "click my heals" wishful thinking because CPAC, GOPAC, and the RNC will probably resume the same old convention formulas, and the conservative blogosphere will probably continue with its circular firing squad strategy.
