Moderates? Who Needs 'em

Chuck Tucson:
If you believe in smaller government and the right of the local government to implement policies, then I welcome you in the party. I may be more conservative than your taste. Fine. But, if there are real areas of agreement, you need to be at the table, not the sidelines.
Frank The Tank:
I do not disagree with your point about what it means to be a Republican in different parts of the United States. But, please, when a senator has a left of center voting record and does nothing to advance basic small-government ideas, that is not a winner anywhere. As far as our governor goes, he ran as a reformer and has become WORSE than the man he replaced. And will lose big time in May when 5 of 6 ballot measures will go down in flames. This is not a winner anywhere.

I do not disagree that the GOP needs to attract new voters. And some will not be as conservative as I would like. But, the Specter episode shows the divide between conservatives and so-called moderates. When Pat Toomey lost to Specter in the 2004 primary, Toomey supported Specter wholeheartedly. The thanks. I need to save my hide, so I will become a Democrat. That way I MIGHT win reelection. When do moderates EVER support conservatives? When do moderates EVER spend their time and money supporting conservatives? If they believe in the big tent, does that not mean they should support any Republican? Here in California, Gov. Benedict Arnold is no different than the man he defeated, Gov. Gray Era Davis. He has agreed to a slew of tax hikes and is supporting a slew of ballot innititives that keep the tax hikes and rob from programs APPROVED by voters by the innititive process. This is what I, a conservative, should pin my hopes on? No thanks.

STACEY McCAIN ON WHAT AILS THE RIGHT

I read you as often as I can. But, I think that you tend to buy too much of the left's talking points about how to expand the Republican party. What will do that are several things. One, like it or not, it will be when more Americans realize that, as R.S. McCain writes, "IT WON'T WORK"-the statist economy President Obama is doing. People will turn to the tried and true. Two, the nanny state that the Democrats have sought in many areas that are totally irrelevant to government. Third, when the Obama foreign policy collapses, and it will, the American people will turn back to the Republican party. A cohesive, comprehensive easy to explain to the people approach will also help the GOP. Giving up on any bloc of the party will not help. Libertarians and Social Conservatives need each other and I do not believe that there is all that much that separates both groups. We need to work together, not against each other.

OLIVER WILLIS: IRRATIONAL CERTAINTY

As much as I think that Michael Savage is on the fringes of conservative thought, he does not deserve to be lumped in with nutbag Alex Jones. And, Alex Jones should never, ever be called a conservative, right winger or anything of the kind. Jones is a conspiracy nut along with Jeff Rense. These guys are reduced to spewing there conspiricy crap on the internet and or (no offense to you, Rick) or internet talk radio. I do not have to separate myself from Alex Jones, Jeff Rense, et al. They are not conservatives. They are looney tunes.

RUSH VS. NEWT: GAME ON!

There is nothing wrong with having both Newt and Rush out there in their different capacities explaining the conservative/Republican message. We can learn from both of them. I think that conservatives need to stop beating up on each other and use some of this on the Obama administration and the raping of the free-enterprise economic system. We need to have two plain-speaking people like Newt and Rush.

IT'S BECAUSE I LOVE YOU

I know that you are trying to offer constructive? critizism about the whole Tea Party protest. But I ask again, if we are to try to protest, should we get our advice from ANSWER? Maybe the Communist Party USA? Again, it has to start somewhere. A lot of people on the other side mocked an "out of touch" conservative politician named Ronald Reagan. And yes, he had some defeats before the people of the United States said enough is enough. I would love that more people on our side were as organized as those on the left. But, we are just not the kind of people that protest for a living. I think that the closest we come to that kind of organiztion is the annual March For Life in Washington, D. C.. It is peaceful, hundreds of thousands turn out. Oh, and it gets little if any coverage by the Dinosaur, Drive-by, Mainstream, Obama-Worshiping Media.
It would be better to offer some assistance to those who are doing the protests. Let's face it. It was small in most cities. But, imagine with good planning and organization and it being in one hundred cities on a Saturday. See how many people show up. It is the Howard Beale moment and we should not reject it but embrace it.

WEAK TEA

So, what is it you want, Rick? ANSWER to give those of us on the conservative side tips on how to protest? It is a start. Do you realize that it took Howard Jarvis four times before Prop 13 passed in California, saving millions of people from being taxed out of their homes? This is but a start. It is true, most conservatives are busy doing real life. I had to work. I could not take time off to go to Santa Monica to the Tea Party held here in the Los Angeles area. Now, maybe if it was held on a Saturday or a Sunday, turnout would have been larger. But, I take this as a start. I like a lot of what you write, especially the 24 updates. But, this post is not only snarky but whinny. Do you remember how the Democrat congress came undone? A little scandal called the House bank. No one seemed to think much of it at the time. Maybe not many will notice this now, but a lot of people will have heard about it and that could be a way to begin cohesive oppostition to what Preisdent Obama is trying to do TO America.

REFLECTIONS ON GOD, MAN, AND CPAC

Ok, here goes my defense of Rush, Sean and Ann.
Rush Limbaugh will tell you that he is an entertainer first and foremost. But, he is a self-taught man who did not go to college. He lived real like. He has been hired and fired from jobs. He is who he is. I will suspect that your cousin has never taken the time to listen to Rush. Yes, just like anyone else, he can go overboard at times. But, listen to Rush. A poster earlier could not get one of his standard lines right. It is not "intelligence on loan from God" but "talent on loan from God". I think that overwhelming number of those commenting on this post have never listened to Rush a week straight let alone three hours.
Sean is way to repetitive. Kind has a Rain Man streak about him. But, he does more for our troops and their families than any of the so-called conservative intellectuals.
That leads to Ann Coulter.
Sure, she is a firebrand on television. And yes, she can go way over the top.
But, as in the case of Rush, I ask all her detractors if they have ever READ one or any of her books? Her defense of Sen. Joe McCarthy was epic. There was a lot of evidence and research in that book. Ann Coulter is one of the smartest people in the conservative movement today. She is willing to take on topics and issues that most stay away from.
As far as young people being "taught" differently, I am a product of public education. And yet, because I opened my eyes, read National Review, and LISTENED to what Ronald Reagan was saying long before I could even vote, I do not buy that arguement. An earlier poster had it right. Sit down and TALK with your children about current events. That is way more of a learning experience than anything taught in a classroom. We can not cheapen the classical conservatism to please a generation that has been indoctrinated. EACH ONE OF US need to be the teachers of what conservatism means. We need to teach young people that dependence on the government for happiness and or security is a false choice. And, all conservatives must understand that we can not leave it up to "leaders". WE ARE THE LEADERS!

JANIS GOLD MUST DIE

AMEN to your thought on "Janis Gold"! I can not believe that she has lasted this long! I did not share your thoughts about Tony until Jack was leaving to meet the president. I saw into Tony's eyes and there is no doubt that he will go back on his word. But how? That is the question! Great fire-fight too. About time! I still submit that President Taylor is a White Barack Obama in drag!

WHEN WILL TONY FLIP?

This President Taylor is a White Obama in a dress. That "speech" made me want to yak! And her SOS was spot on to resign right then and there before her "speech". Maybe the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs should have just pulled a gun and ended her misery! UGH!
