Perhaps if the GOP demonstrated some principles again instead of just trying (and failing) to remain in power some of the many courageous black conservatives out there would consider putting themselves through hell to get elected.

Unlawful combatants, spies, and terrorists are not covered by the GC at all. The historical resolution to their status was summary execution.
Ricks point is that the harsh interrogation treatments are illegal under US law and other international treaties to which we are a party. The GC is not at issue.

I think part of the reason you aren't seeing a lot of support for speaking out against these kinds of interrogation techniques is that the legal definition of "torture" is not clear to most people and probably does not match what many consider to be "real" torture.
And, when we have those on the left (and some prominent politicians) equating underware on a prisoner's head to feeding live people into shredders, my tendency is to not support any investigation which would turn into a political witch-hunt.
I do find some of the things that have been done disturbing and a good open discussion of just what we are willing to accept as a society needs to take place. I just don't think it is politically possible.

This should make the "is he prepared to be president" question clear and well answered. You can give Obama the doubt concluding he will surround himself with people who are knowlegable and thoughtful....wrong. Goolsby shows that Obama will surround himself with inept people that don't have a good clue as to how to deal with foriegn governments. For gods sake this is Canada america lite can you imagine if Obama made a mistake like this with Russia or China Or N. Korea. UHHHHHH i'm shuttering right now. All of that is the underbelly of this thing on the surface what bothers me is I doubt Goolsby was acting unilaterally it is most likely Obama was aware of what was happening and let it happen. Obama is about as ready to be president as Arnold Ziffle.

A truly brilliant post. Thank you - I will share widely. I especially appreciate:
1) There are many bad things to be said about Hillary Clinton both personally and politically but what she and her husband were accused of during their tenure in office is so far beyond reality that it gives those of us who wish to critique Mrs. Clinton rationally a bad name. Those on the left who have spent the last seven years realistically critiquing the Bush Administration know what I’m talking about. It is easy to get lumped in with the nuts.
