FROM HERE ON OUT, THE AMNESTY PROGRAM IS A REPUBLICAN ISSUE

Rick: I agree, even though it probably won't work (stubborness is a character flaw) we need to contact the White House. Following is the email I sent to President Bush earlier today.

Mr. President
The White House

Dear President Bush:

I applaud your heroic stance after the 9/11 attacks and for your many other accomplishments from tax reduction to Supreme Court appointments.

With all due respect sir, I believe that you and the Republican leadership are wrong on the illegal immigration issue. Allowing illegal immigrants to break the laws they dislike solely based on their color and national origin violates our Constitution and civil rights laws going back to the Civil War. Further, not enforcing illegal immigration and hiring laws erodes respect for the rule of law in America. Great harm is being done to our country.

As a practical matter, the Dept. of Homeland Security is not ready to handle tens of millions of immigrants, and won't be for years. Please support the House bill, H.R. 4437 for enforcement only and lets take a look at other issues of immigration in 4 or 5 years after DHS is ready.

Mr. President, the majority of the American people support border security and oppose blanket amnesty and unearned citizenship. Let's make American citizenship worth something and require citizens to be loyal to America first, to be productive and benefit our country, and to speak English so they can be assimilated.

Please Mr. President, put America and its security ahead of Mexico and its needs.

Sincerely,

CIA VS. THE WHITE HOUSE: THE BIRD THAT ISN'T SINGING

Should a "high CIA official" be talking with reporters?
Would it surprise anyone that a Kerry supporter would lie about leaking? Wouldn't surprise me.

CIA VS. THE WHITE HOUSE: THE LEAKER AND THE SQUEALER

Diamond said: "Heard this evening that the squeaker is a woman, wouldn ‘t you know it, the weaker sex. Puts women back a few years."

There have been rumors for years that the "Sisterhood" in the CIA was the source of most of the leaks. I hope that she and the reporters she gave classified information will be prosecuted with the same vigor as Scooter Libby. Where is the rightous Fitsgerald now? Press conference?

"STAY AT HOME" REPUBLICANS

Rick: Good discussion and comments, thanks.

Marion Berryman Said:"Of course if it makes you feel better to pull your little protest stunt of not voting and giving the country to the Democrats because things haven’t gone perfectly under Republicans, then go right ahead and make your point. Maybe in another 10 or 12 years conservatives can try again after Democrats have had their turn and wrecked the country."

This is wishful thinking. If the GOP president and senate get the blanket amnesty-citizenship legislaton passed and/or if they don't control the border the changes will be irreversable. When millions of illegals vote for the Dems and 10's of millions more pour across the border to get their rights, America will move to a one party system. Demagogues will grant so many new rights that the system will accelerate left and never look back. Can representative democracy survive in a one party state?

Come the 2006 elections, if blanket amnesty-citizenship has been granted it won't make any difference what Republicans do.

RUMSFELD: LONG PAST TIME FOR A CHANGE

Interesting post Rick. As always you make me think about the issues. I am of two minds on Rumsfeld. I think he did brilliant jobs in defeating Afghanistan and Iraq. But I think he made an error in not putting, and keeping, enough divisions in Iraq.

We need to finish a win in Iraq and leave a stable ally there. I don’t see the White House or Rumsfeld with any new ideas on how to do that before the backstabbing MSM and Democrats wear down support for the War on Terror to the point where a forced withdrawal in inevitable.

I cannot see how the situation is going to improve. The White House in distracted and focused on amnesty and citizenship for illegal aliens and the Pentagon is quiet. Neither are effectively defending the War on Terror. Is Rumsfeld leaving the answer? I don’t know, but I suspect leadership and political strength should come from the White House first.

IRAN: EVERYBODY PLEASE RELAX AND TAKE A DEEP BREATH

Nice post Rick. Agree, taking a breath and time to analyze and reflect is called for now.

Your thoughts are well organized and helpful in me understanding some of the issues. Permit me to make a couple of points. The HEU figure of 80% is high, we can discuss it in email if you wish. Also, I think we need to consider the volatility and uncertainty of the region and mullas in our analyses even more that we usually do. Pakistan and India provide counterbalance to each other a la MAD.

But who provides the counterbalance to Iran? The Europeans seem to have softened and the UN may be ineffective. As you stated, Israel has the will but its resourses are limited for such broad area and long range actions. That leaves the US as the only real counterbalance. The leftie Dems have us divided over Iraq and the Republicans seem hell bent on dividing us even more with their illegal alien amnensty and citizenship. Do you think we can forge a national unity sufficient to take action should it be necessary in the near future?

CIA VS. THE WHITE HOUSE: MISSING THE "BIG STORY"

Great post Rick, thanks.
I dont know if it true or of any value but I have been hearing a persistent rumor (via a range of sources from blogs to news magazines) for years about a "Sisterhood" in the CIA. It supposedly came about when there was a push to get more women in CIA yet their field opportunities were limited by statute and tradidion. These limitations in turn limited their promotion potential so they banded together.

As the Sisterhood rose in rank within the CIA, lacking field experience and on a self-help mission, they started controlling what information from the field got where. And, how it was analyzed along the way. As many were more liberal than their traditional predecessors, they were more in tune with Clinton et. al. than Bush et. al. so that conflicts arose. The story goes that the Sisterhood is now high enough to have access, motive, and opportuity to leak information of the type you are discussing. I do not know what if any credibility to give to these rumors other than to sugest, if they were proved true, that this would be a good place to start looking.

THE IRANIANS RESPOND: "YOU'RE BLUFFING...WE THINK"

Nice article Rick. In negotiations of this type, everything has to be on the table from the US side. Otherwise you have a Carter/Clinton approach. That did us a lot of good in North Korea.

INCOMPETENCE PILED ON TOP OF INCOHERENCE

Sen. Frist has shown he flip-flops like Kerry and McCain can't even help his home state.

CARNIVAL OF THE CLUELESS #39: THE HALL OF FAME EDITION

Will you please consider Sen. John McCain for entry in your list of clueless?
1. He says Americans wouldn't pick lettuce for $50/hr. If he follows up on his offer to pay this he better not stand between the crowd of red white and blue and the field.
2. He is in bed with Ted Kennedy on their open borders/blanket amnesty legislation. Has anyone who got in bed with Teddy from Mary Jo to President Bush on NCLB ever come out whole?
3. He thinks giving the vote to millions of unskilled and uneducated illegal immigrants will make solid Republican voters of them and thus carry him to the White House. Has he never heard of block-voting for the Democrat party?
Tammy Bruce said of McCain "Let me be blunt. McCain is a self-serving, opportunistic pig." (http://tammybruce.com/archives/2006/04/john_mccain_thi.php) Tammy has a clue.

Thanks for your consideration. For more on John McCain's Arizona please see http://linknzona.blogspot.com
