BUSH IS NO LINCOLN

ed,

What is the 'reality' and what are the 'facts' that point to Bush having a keen intellect? There are countless hours of video and audio tape proving otherwise. And sure, maybe you don't have to be a great public speaker to prove you're smart, but wouldn't you expect to see a few more examples of policy successes over the course of 8 years than Bush could provide?

I'd also like to know how you could consider someone both incurious and intelligent, because those attributes don't usually go together. Being incurious is probably the single biggest roadblock to intelligence, wouldn't you agree?

I know it seems counter-intuitive to think that a moron could be voted into the highest office in the land, but that's only if you think every American is a realistic and informed habitually eager voter. If you start thinking of Americans more realistically (as in, not very smart themselves), then it makes a little more sense.

What is the ‘reality’ and what are the ‘facts’ that point to Bush having a keen intellect?

Where do I say Bush has a "keen intellect?" Unbelievably dishonest on your part. I said he was smart - as evidenced by the fact that you have to have something upstairs in order to fly a jet. Even if you take into account that he may have received preferential treatment to get in to the program, are you seriously saying that a "moron" can fly a modern jet fighter - a task that requires an ability with higher math as well as a general intelligence that probably surrpasses yours?

That's pretty ignorant on your part if you are actually trying to make that argument.

This might be the smartest thing I've seen written by a conservative in a long time, thought that's not really saying much, given the general level of political discussion to be found among your community. Your ability to recognize the fact that it was President Bush that specifically prevented the surge from happening for more than three years makes you a rare find among your peers, who so easily forget that his slogan during his re-election campaign was 'Stay the Course.' It might as well have been 'Keep Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Expecting Different Results.' I'd go on to note that it was an election defeat that finally goaded the President into entertaining someone else's ideas about what should be done in that country, supporting the characterization of the President as someone that repeatedly ignored reality to play politics.

Additionally, any paragraph that starts with 'Not lacking in brains' and is about George Bush is by definition, NOT a 'money graf.' The idea that Lincoln and Bush are alike in any sort of intellectual capacity is just totally laughable. Both Presidents are in classes by themselves, on opposite sides of the spectrum. Lincoln might be our greatest President, while Bush is without a doubt the worst we've ever had. As he gets further and further out of office, and as the American people watch a new President with baseline levels of intelligence and competence do the same job, you will come to accept that assessment as well.

It is a fallacy to believe that George Bush is "dumb." It flies in the face of reality and the facts.

As I point out in the article, the two men had radically different intellects; Lincoln had "an expansive and inquisitive mind" while Bush was "incurious" about his presidency. It hardly means that Bush didn't have smarts. But the way the two men used their noggin was vastly different.

BLAGOJEVICH: BEYOND 'BUSINESS AS USUAL' IN ILLINOIS

No one says that discussing this appointment with Balgguardovich is illegal – Obama goes so far to say that he HAS NEVER had a conversation with the Governor.

Everything I need to know about you I can learn from this paragraph. It's hardly even 48 hours and you're already mangling the quote. How could you reasonably believe that Obama, a former state senator, U.S. Senator, and now President, NEVER had a conversation with the governor of the state he's been representing for the past 8 years?

Obama said he had 'no contact' with the governor. That statement was obviously limited to this singular issue of corruption. Of course Obama's had conversations with Blagojevich, there are photographs of them together. You're just totally making stuff up if you think Obama said he's never had a conversation with the guy. Maybe you should think about this stuff some more before you start posting about it?

Yes – except “Advisor B” – probably Rahmbo – heard out Blago’s rep and then made a counter offer to the bribe.

Have you ever heard Rahm Emmanuel described as 'a D.C. based consultant?' What gives you the impression that Advisor B is Rahm Emmanuel?

And if you think lying about talking to Blago about the senate seat (“misspoke,” indeed) makes Obama look good, you’re a moron.

Are you serious? Obama is scrambling away from the Governor just like every other politician in America. In America, when a guy like Blagojevich just totally flames out, everyone has to pretend that they've never had anything to do with the guy. The rush to do so can lead to some mildly embarrassing but ultimately meaningless contradictions. These are politicians we're talking about here.

If Obama talked to Blagojevich, what difference does it make? It isn't illegal for him to talk to the Governor of the state he represents, or even discuss who might be tapped to replace him, is it? Fitzgerald has already cleared Obama of any wrongdoing, so what else is there? The most that anyone could say would be that we caught him telling some stupid little white lie at a press conference. What should be the punishment for that?

Additionally, do Republicans still erupt in a blind fury when someone accuses George Bush of lying about the Iraq war? Just some perspective.

What did Obama know, and when did he know it? Apparently a lot more than he’s willing to discuss as he’s clammed up already.

If you know anything about the facts of the investigation you would know it makes Obama look like a saint. He's the one whose name Blagojevich was cursing, do you realize this?

You guys just lost an election because your entire campaign strategy involved trying to hitch Obama to other peoples' wagons, and its now surprise that your reacting to his Presidency the same way. Republicans simply don't learn from their mistakes. At the end of the day, Obama turned down a bribe from someone in his own party. And he didn't do it publicly, he didn't make a big show out of it, he just turned it down.

Can you not recognize how good this makes him look?

Yes - except "Advisor B" - probably Rahmbo - heard out Blago's rep and then made a counter offer to the bribe. And if you think lying about talking to Blago about the senate seat ("misspoke," indeed) makes Obama look good, you're a moron.

WHAT WE NEED IS A GOLDILOCKS GOVERNMENT

I for one, am sick and tired of government. Just sick of it. I can hurl when I listen to Barry Dunham, hem and haw, trying to sound like he knows what he’s talking about, especially when it comes to auto manufacturers.

Barry-boy, Botox Pelosi, Botox Biden, Chinless Harry Reid, Chrissy “the crook” Dodd, Teddy “the swimmer” Kennedy, Chucky “ambulance chaser” Schumer – these lawyers with little knowledge about anything, little skill other than pontificating are going to plan our lives for us.

Government IS THE PROBLEM. Get off the government nipple. Live your own life.

Government is the only reason you don't live in a cave. Do you like having roads and a military and hospitals and schools? All of those things exist because of government. Do you like the idea of civilization? Of rule of law? Of a code of ethics? These principles flow from government. Government has guided human development for thousands of years. As a species, we're as complicated and complex as we've ever been, and to think that we've outgrown the need for the organ that is fundamentally responsible for getting us here is just stupid.

Government isn't the problem. Morons electing other morons to run the government as poorly as possible is the problem. There's nothing inherently evil about the idea of government. That's such an obvious propaganda play from big business that if you can't recognize it you really are useless for most purposes. You can scrub toilets, maybe.

How do you morons figure anyone should listen to you? Have you ever been right about anything, ever?

Considering that we just went through the longest, most sustained economic growth in the history of industrialized civilization, you would do well to listen.

'Unleash' Palin? Get Real

Josh Bozeman said:

"Don’t you mean youthful indiscretion with cocaine? And, right or wrong, the view that the world is 6000 years old is, according to many polls, the prevailing mainstream view in America. It’s not the mainstream view among scientists, but then again polls show only about 2% of the top ranking scientists believe in any God at all which is far outside the mainstream for Americans as a whole.

Her ideas, if those are actually her ideas (I’d like to see HER say they are or are not), aren’t too uncommon."

That's crazy. You're allowed to hold batshit-insane views so long as they're not uncommon? What kind of attitude is that?

Just curious, do you believe the Earth is 6,000 years old?

So you base your view that she said this on the word of a lone person with a grudge? And you question her intelligence? words fail me.

I was responding to another commenter, that tried to pretend that anyone, be it Palin or otherwise, mixing up woolly mammoths and dinosaurs was some minor misunderstanding of prehistory that doesn't mean anything.

Try to keep up.

Oh really. Obama had a similarly goofy moment when he claimed running a presidential campagin (btw, his boy Axlerod is paid 6 figures to do this job) qualifies him for an executive position. Where was the jeering press on that one, digging for dead bodies in Palin’s backyard.

That's not goofy in the slightest, that makes sense. When you run for office you are extremely busy, talking with the press multiple times a day, traveling frequently, holding all sorts of meetings, giving speeches, debating, coordinating a very large organization, etc. Certainly those experiences prepare someone for the Presidency, since you're doing the same sorts of activity.

On the other hand, claiming you have foreign policy experience because of your geographic proximity to a foreign country is absolutely ridiculous. And to pretend like Obama actually believes there are 57 states is to be exceedingly dishonest, especially coming from a crowd that elected George Bush to two terms.
