FAMILIARITY BREEDS CONTEMPT WITH HEALTH CARE REFORM

Gayle Miller - What does a lawyer know about my medical health?
I don't talk to my lawyer about repairing my car, for the same reason I don't talk to my lawyer about what to do with my beat up old body. The lawyer is not the person doing the work, nor is he an expert in the field. Now once I've discussed all the options and made a decision, then is the time to call in my lawyer and tell him to write it all up legal like.
I don't ask my lawyer's opinion on what he thinks my odds are of recovering once the cancer has spread to my brain, I ask my doctor.
When a loved one has been kept alive on a machine for 6 months, you don't ask your lawyer what he thinks of the situation, you ask the doctor.

The VA - underfunded, understaffed. And kept that way so that people will use their work supplied big insurance company instead. If the Vets had a plan worthy of them, then the big insurance companies would loose all that money.

A FEW RAMBLING THOUGHTS ON THE GATES AFFAIR

As a long haired white male who smokes a pipe and has been pulled over many times for nothing (My favorite was having a cop stop me while I was walking to catch a bus so I could go do jury duty) I fully understand how profiling works.

I understand that in my neighborhood filled with middle class yuppies I stand out (When the manager of a store remembers that you came in one time before, and that was three months ago on the first day the shop was open, then you know you are not like the other customers). Looking different does not give the police a reason to ask me questions that they are not asking the woman who was also walking down the street about 100 yards in front of me... but they never stop and ask the white yuppies questions. Why is that?

An interesting examination on the this is:
"What the Henry Louis Gates Jr Incident is REALLY All About"
http://bradhicks.livejournal.com/432862.html
But then most of what Brad Hicks writes on is interesting.

HOW MUCH IS A HUMAN BEING WORTH?

Which politician is going to go on record as stating that it is OK to pull the plug on Grandma? Politicians may have no shame, but they are very easy to get caught up in stupid situations in which they can never come out on the side of logic.

A nice example is a town near me that has a law stating that cross dressing is $10 fine. This law was originally passed to keep women from wearing pants. While no one would even think about enforcing this law in this day and age, no politician is willing to publicly state that he sees nothing wrong with cross dressing.

You don't shame the politician, you just set it up so that every time he has to mention health care someone is there to ask "Is this another 'kill Grandma' cost cutting messure, or would you like to add 6 year old little kids to that as well?". It is damn hard to run for re-election under that banner.

PALIN: THE WAR CONTINUES

Freedoms Truth asked:
"SO HOW HARD DID YOU WORK TO STOP THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE PRESIDENT IN OUR LIFETIME, BARACK OBAMA?"

Didn't work against him, as he was not then, and is not now, the person I worry the most about being the President.

"Obama had his Katrina/Iraq/name it moments in the first five months of his Administration as he engaged in economic policies that will implode in the near term."

I am taking it from your analogy that you believe that the ambulance driver is at fault for the 3 car pile up he has arrived to try and save lives at? Katrina happened in 2005, Iraq started in 2003. 'Name it moment' is a little to vauge for me to date. Housing collapse started in 2008 before Obama was even the Dem candidate. So, what else do you have to blame him on? GM & Chrysler & the banking industry running themselves into bankrupty? I think it took more then 5 months of stupidity on their part to achieve that. Sanford's cheating?

Or are you trying to claim that Obama has special magical powers that let him fool CEO and Politicians into becoming brainless idiots more then 6 years before he was elected President?

@Mike Giles: Maybe they think that she is the very last person on the planet they want in office?

If there is someone running for office that I think will destroy everything, then not only am I going to not vote for them, but I am also going to campain against them.

If the other sides choices are Average, Average, and Moron, I am going to do everything to avoid it coming down to my side vs Moron. I care to much for the country to risk that. I would rather see my side lose then see someone I thought was the worst possible person win.

I think that you will find a lot of people feel that way about it.

If Palin wants to get back in the race I think she should take the time to start showing us what she is made of by putting out a monthly 15 minute video on YouTube covering what ever topic she thinks is important.

No reporters to say "Gotcha!", no audience to distract her, no one except her and her ideas of what this country needs.
It doesn't have to be the greatest video ever made. Heck, she can likely get the kids at the local high school to show her how to do it with a $20 webcam, and some open source software.

If that is not to her liking then she can write a monthly blog posting. I know that Huffington Post would love to give her access to an audience that will provide her with feed back.

OH FOR GOD'S SAKE, STOP IT

"To think that anything said by a mainstream conservative set this guy off and contributed to his rampage is equally bogus."

So you don't think there was some final straw that broke the camel's back, but rather that it had been broken all along. Interesting.

Now mind you I am not trying to say that anyone kept pushing his buttons to send him over the top, any more then somone suffereing road rage is being provoked by other drivers to try and cause others to crash.

But can you not concive that someone somewhere might have been that final straw?

ONLY THE BEGINNING

Safety is something the government has been doing for some time now... like making all cars have seat belts, then making laws that say we have to wear them, and then installing airbags... Oh, and building codes, the FDA (Imagine what we'd be eating if there were no regulations. Only 6 insect legs per lb is the current limit.), OSHA, flame retardent PJs, etc.

Of course Missouri is showing the rest of the country that they are truely two faced on this issue. Big campain reminding us daily to wear a seat belt, millions spent, meanwhile the Gov. signs a law making it OK to not wear a helment on a motorcycle if you are over 20 years of age.

PRINCIPLE SHOULD TRUMP PRAGMATISM IN SOTOMAYOR VOTE

@jackson1234
"those few Democratic senators left who can exercise independent judgment come to the same conclusion"

So if someone comes to a conclusion that is different then what you want them to belive then they are not capable of excercising independent judgement?

My independent judgement says you are wrong on this.

NOT SOCIALISM: GANGSTERISM

So lets look at the other alternative: Chrysler declares bankruptcy, and all the dealers are with out a dealership.

You talk about the unions getting bailouts. How many union guys are currently with out a job? Last I heard Detroit was pretty much a ghost town, and both of the car plants in my neck of the woods are going to be shut down.

Did Obama personally pick who was keeping a franchise, and who was loseing one... or was it someone at Chrysler? I am pretty sure it was someone at Chrysler looking at the number of cars bought and sold at each franchise who made the choice.

Right down the street from me there are 15 store fronts that have not been rented out since they were built a little over a year ago. From what I understand the owner of the strip mall is about to let the bank take it over, so that he can keep the other 3 he owns as they still make him money.
What Chrysler is doing is kind of like that. Droping off the ones that don't earn as much of a profit, so the ones that are still running can make an even bigger profit.

The guy says 50 people will be unemployed... Figuring a minimum of $100,000 a month to pay them, that means that he needed to be selling... what? 50-60 new cars a month to turn a profit? When sales are down nearly 50%, do you think he is making those kind of sales? So he is losing money, just like all the other dealers.... but if we close some of them, then the sales will go to a different dealership, and that might be enough to turn a profit and keep those employees employeed there.
