"SECRETS OF 24" - YOUR "24" FIX FOR THE YEAR?

Last night I was watching the last hour of Day 3 as I rode my exercise bike. Palmer had just resigned, the surgeons were sewing Luke's - I mean Chase's - hand back on, Tony was headed to jail, and Jack was sitting in a CTU SUV crying. The words, "Hey buddy, need a drink?" popped into my mind.

THE TRIUMPH OF THE PARANOID LEFT

I'd like to know exactly how the question was asked - could it have been interpreted to include the warnings from the FBI agent who tried to get permission to search Moussaoui's computer and the warnings of foreigners who wanted to learn to fly, but not land, passenger jets? If the question were so broad as to include those warnings, maybe the American people aren't as nuts as you suspect.

However, as someone who sleeps with a radio on, I hear Coast to Coast AM at night. The show was formerly hosted by Art Bell and was a funny show about UFOs, Bigfoot, ghosts, and occasionally an open line for the anti-Christ to call in. While some of the callers, and some of the guests, took it all very seriously, I always thought I could detect a chuckle in Art's voice.

Now, however, the show is hosted by George Noory, a former news manager in Detroit and St. Louis and other places. George repeatedly says there is no such thing as coincidence. He actively promotes conspiracy theories that would cause even Alex Jones to give pause. The overall goal of the plot is to reduce the population of the earth to some absurdly low figure - 5-million, IIRC. Somehow this population reduction is supposed to benefit the rich.

Callers to the show now are rarely engaged in fun - the fear in their voices is evident. You've hit the nail on the head - people no longer know how to think about a topic. As someone who spent 15-years in the news business, I can tell you that the problem is particularly profound in the news media.

WHAT'S A LITTLE VOTER FRAUD AMONG FRIENDS?

Florida's salvation came in the early 90s with a terrible corruption scandal in Miami. The state turned to a photo ID law - this while the Democrats still held the legislature and Democrat Lawton Chiles was in the governor's office. No one is able to complain here - yet.

What US troops were stationed in the Middle East in 1979 - the year Iran declared war on us?

RON PAUL: PANDERER TO THE PARANOID?

I've been surprised by the Ron Paul phenomenon this year. I've known Ron for years as a libertarian congressman. In 1988, I met him and interviewed him for a half-hour TV show as he was the LP candidate for president. None of the nuttiness came through at that time. He adopted most of the standard Libertarian Party platform at the time, except that he did not support a right to abortion. And, IIRC, he did not support a total ban on the death penalty. In other words, he came across as a leaning-right small government libertarian. I will admit that I voted for him. I will not this year - but then as a resident of Florida my primary vote won't be counted anyway unless a current lawsuit forces the parties to accept Florida delegates.

US politics have changed a great deal since 1988. They are much more shrill- it's almost as though they believe that he who yells loudest and most wildly will win.

MY TEN FAVORITE MYTHIC HEROES OF ALL TIME

I guess Season 6 knocked Jack Bauer out of consideration.

NIGHTMARE AT GROUND ZERO

This is all unimportant. The news is that Tony is coming back.

I don't see why you think laying a wreath would be a gesture of good will. I think it would be a photo op that would be portrayed in the Middle East as him honoring the dead jihadis. And showing the US as too weak to stop him from doing it.

WHY THE FUSS? IT'S JUST A HOLE IN THE GROUND.

He wants to lay a wreath - to honor whom? When he gets home, the news will probably be that he honored the terrorists flying the planes.

WHEN YOU THINK IDIOCY, "THINK PROGRESS"

The show was not broadcast on Fox News, which is a cable network and has the same FCC rules as other cable networks. It was broadcast on the Fox Network, on over the airwaves local TV stations - and the FCC does not allow such language on over-the-air stations. It's similar to the Janet Jackson breast-baring on CBS - again, over-the-air stations.
