"TODAY'S LOONY CONSPIRACY THEORY HAS BEEN CANCELLED"

Actually, that proportion of undervotes does not seem especially high -- at least to anyone who has studied American election returns.

For example, in the 2000 race in Murtha's 12 Pennsylvania district, about 35,000 fewer voted in the congressional race than in the presidential race. To put it another way there was an undervote of almost 15 percent in the congressional race.

If you look at other congressional races, you can find similar results, especially when no popular incumbent was running.

And the falloff as go you farther down the ballot is often even larger.

(That's not an endorsement of the ballot design, which I haven't seen.)

Rick - I saw that paragraph about the "barrage" of questions about the party affiliations of the CIA folks, and doubt very much that it is true, for reasons I explained in . More likely that claim is just another counterattack from the anti-Bush people at the CIA.
