DEMOCRATS KNEW ABOUT TORTURE BUT DIDN'T OBJECT

One other major meme that is emerging from the netroots is that since Bush had this meeting hanging over their heads, the Democratic leadership refused to begin impeachment hearings. With that kind of logic, we can expect an immediate effort by Pelosi to start the impeachment bandwagon moving next week now that everything is out in the open.

I think a more plausible explanation is that Pelosi and co refused to begin impeachment hearings against Bush and co because of their tacit approval of the torture policy. In other words, they didn't think that Bush and co were doing anything wrong.

Though Rick, I quibble with you when you say that those being tortured are necessarily "murderous jihadis." Whatever happened to the presumption of innocece? Sure, some of those being tortured are "murderous jihadis" and our concerns about their relative comfort are somewhat minimized by this, but its the automatic assumption that everyone we're holding in Guantanamo is a terrorist that worries me. The assumption that everyone we're torturing deserves it is NOT a sound legal or moral policy.

NRO SHOULD FIRE THOMAS SMITH FOR HIS LEBANON FABLES

The one thing I always liked about the MSM is that they absolutely refuse to resort to nuanced explanations of events, unless one of their own is caught blatantly lying.

Perhaps if they applied this same level of nuanced analysis in their everyday writing, America as a whole would be better off.

WHAT'S A LITTLE VOTER FRAUD AMONG FRIENDS?

Rick, I don't get it. where's the evidence of "massive voter fraud" by "Democrat's allies" that you allege? #3 is right - you show me something more than anecdotal evidence - something more than the "possibility" of voter fraud, and then I'll buy into the idea that it exists. There's a possibility that I might get shot on my way to work tomorrow, what with the huge number of guns floating around DC, but you don't see me crying about it.

IDF HITS THE BEKAA!

Any plan to take out Hizbullah would have HAD to include the Bekka. For two weeks people like Ralph Peters have been saying that the Israeli war plan is flawed, they're losing, etc, etc. Now that the ground game has started, people are acting like this wasn't part of the game all along.

Amazing.

MAN, IT'S A BITCH SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER...EVEN WHEN YOU'RE NOT

I'm running through my head all those great right-wing comedians. There. Done. That took about three seconds.

RUNNING FROM HISTORY

Thank you Ed for stating the truth without slander. So much talk these days is to defend the powerful by defaming the powerless.

THEY ALL FROZE

"The monumental nature of this disaster was clearly beyond the competence of governmental institutions to handle. It was made worse by the failure of those in leadership positions to act decisively:.

There is no federal bureaucrat alive (outside the military) that will react the way you want them to react. It might put their lifetime employment in jeopardy. They keep their jobs by obeying the rules and saying no.

That is why anybody who relies on the government is a fool.

DANCING ON THE GRAVES OF BLACK PEOPLE

Absolutely disgusting drivel.

As a liberal, I take serious offense to the insinuation that I'm "joyous" about this. To the contrary -- I'm furious as a human being at the needless death, and embarassed as an American by our countries response.

Before you make inane, unfounded assumptions based on nothing but vitriol, consider the psychological notion of PROJECTING.

The fact that you would assume that political opponents find joy when the failures of their opposition results in countless deaths says much more about YOU and Druggie Limbaugh than it does about any liberal.

BLOOD IS THICKER THAN POLITICS

Rick, my respect for your brother went up exponentially after reading the transcript of his interview by Hugh Hewitt. His insight and candor were remarkable. I only wish he'd try to break away from the hostile, herd mentality of White House reporters, who seem to think that their job is to aggressively challenge the administration. Most news consumers aren't looking for a "pound of flesh" from the President or his spokesman. And we certainly don't want Democratic Party talking points posed as questions. We mainly want to better understand what's going on. I learned more from your brother's interview with Hugh Hewitt than I learn from almost any news conference.
