AMANPOUR INTERVIEW: TOO MANY QUESTIONS UNANSWERED

The Mullahs have made poor decisions and they want to survive, they are financially broke and worried about war. The Evil George Bush is not the problem, they want the Evil George Bush to prop up the Mullahs repressive regime. The Iranians could call for free and open elections tomorrow; allow the people of Iran to elect their wanted moderate government that would immediately cease the nuclear weapons program, offer renewed relations with the United States, cut off Hezbollah & Hamas and join the modern world. Iranians love the United States, it is their illegitimate government that is the problem. When he mentions weakness, he is referring to internal regime elements that are belligerent.

READY FOR THE "BUSH BOUNCE?"

Rick,
B-1 bombers over Baghdad and the Democrats are voting against a strategy that is going to work; priceless. Our Founding Fathers were so smart to have a single commander-in-chief. Democrats have signed their death warrant, only Joe Lieberman could win the Presidency in 08' as a Democrat, but he was kicked out of the Party! God speed General Petreaus.

NIE ON IRAQ PUTS BURDEN FOR PROGRESS ON IRAQIS

Rick,
Why do the newly freed slaves have to reach out to the slaveholders? The Sunnis have much to apologize for past sins, they should be reaching out to the Shia to make amends. This reluctance by the Sunnis is the same approach as was Democrats demands that President Bush needed to reach out to Democrat after the 2004 election; it was the Democrats themselves that should have.

SUPPORT THE TROOPS: OPPOSE THE BIDEN RESOLUTION

Rick,
You are totally wrong, and in time history will not consider our Iraq strategy to date as a military failure. The Iraqi insurgency was well planned before we invaded. The same reason we have Hugo Chavez in power is the reason the Pentagon was over ruled in Iraq to install a temporary dictator; the Foggy Bottom. The Pentagon never had the option to maintain 300-400k troops in theater. If the military is stretched at 150k, how could we have maintained more than double that? Early on it was recognized that a political solution would have to be crafted, no amount of troop involvement could passive the population, but while that process was being carried out, troop protection would be a top priority until a sustained Iraqi military could be built and a legitimate government could be elected. The long slog Rumsfeld acknowledged was realism. We can't leave Iraq, but we should do all we can to hold the country together until the dynamics of political reconciliation could move forward. Today we have the opportunity to begin the process to move the Iraqis to drop their affiliation to the Crown or other groups, to join in with the new Republic. Maliki needs a Princeton type victory to encourage this. Yorktown is down the road, but is achievable. God speed General Petreaus.

WONDER DOG OR UGLY MUTT?

Rick,
Grossman has talent, but he has a flippant attitude, which makes fans uncomfortable. If he took the game more seriously, fans would be more patient, and forgiving.

THE TIME FOR EVASION IS OVER

Rick,
Why do you feel the need for a government mandated sacrifice? Oh how socialist. Americans were stoic after 9/11, building the 4th leg of any military operation by increasing the size of our economy by $3 trillion, they went to work everyday, rode trains, flew in planes. The burden of this struggle rests with the American people. When Americans have the audacity to pretend they don't have the responsibility for our military actions, and call the interests of the United States Bush's War, they have failed in their responsibilities as citizens. President Bush has been the only player in this struggle that has not fallen in his resolve. The disingenuous opposition has been allowed by wimpy Republicans to sour the publics stamina, shame on them. Every Republican should recognize their duty to firmly stand behind the President's decision, calling on fellow Americans to support the success of this mission, sending a clear signal that the United States stands behind those Iraqi moderates willing to fight for their freedom. The only reason we face this insurgency is because the tactic works. We show our resolve, they will never use it again.

MISSING SOMETHING?

My only concern with our invasion of Iraq; that we wouldn't crush them into submission. Military planners thought that a swift decapitation of the regime would substitute for destruction. It didn't work in Iraq, but it did quite the Arab Street. I think we have bent over backwards with the Sunnis, but as Fred Barns commented, the whining over Saddam's execution is a clear indication that the Sunnis don't get it. The Sunnis had their chance, it is time to crush them. If the President changes the terms of engagement, the Left may cry foul, but Iraq not Washington is where the war will be won.

WHERE LATE THE SWEET BIRDS SANG

Being the only Packer fan in the sky box Sunday night was sheer joy. I kept that joy to myself, however. Joe Montana is over rated, give that offensive line to Rex Grossman he would win too. Bart Starr won 5 Championships, 3 of which were in a row, and played in 6. Why isn't his name listed above? For the reason I belong to the 49'ers Haters Society.

Dan Marino had natural talent and was great. Bret Favre has a strong arm but never had a coach like Don Shula. Holmgren, not Favre lost several more Championship opportunities. I give all the credit to Holmgren for getting Favre up to his potential that Ron Wolf saw, but a better coaching staff would have resulted in more Championships. Could one imagine Favre on a Belichick team? Move over Tom Brady. I would put Terry Bradshaw among the top 5 and that would include Favre.

Favre should not retire. The youngest team in the NFL getting better every week, huge salary cap room, tons of cash in the bank. All Favre needs is a marque WR and the Pack is a contender. McCarthy is probably the best coach he has had, why leave.

THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY...AND GEORGE

Rick,
If it is truly a Tradition, Bush will be there. Bush does everything for posterity.

RUMMY OUT. GATES IN

Bush just set the trap on the most effective weapon against success in Iraq, lack of Democrat leadership and public support! Bush tapped Gates to thwart Democrats ability to hide behind the Iraq Commission's upcoming report. Since Gates was an author, Democrats will be forced to support our Mission rather than sour the publics patience. Brilliant move. Now that Democrats won Institutional positions, it will place an even greater burden on them to support US foreign policy. The only reason Maliki hasn't disbanded the militias is his worry we will leave, bipartisan support of Gates, the new direction, what ever we wish to call it, will send a strong signal that we will finish the job. The fact Bush didn't signal an "October Surprise" revelation about Rumsfeld is his true character. Had such a move improved Republican fortunes, Democrats would be even more intransigent, we need their support to win this, period.
