What is patriotism? It must have a definite meaning in order to convey what it in fact does mean.Comment Posted By edward cropper On 4.05.2008 @ 12:45
One definition is love of country and willingness to sacrifice for it. Another is love of and devotion to one's country.
You can meet these requirements and still have some very antagonistic feelings toward your government.
Wanting to cause harm to your country to the extent that your country would be vulnerable to overthrow by an outside force could seemingly be un-patriotic.
It would seem that anyone who doesn't actually want the destruction of their country and/or the complete dissolution of those basic fundlemental ingredients that made it what it is can still be patriotic. No matter how disconnected they may be from the current political trend.
Many Russians fell back on their patriotism for Mother Russia and fought like crazy to defeat the Germans all the while in effect protecting their Communist overlords. Stalin even removed all outward signs of Karl Marx during the German campaign to remove any semblance of connection to that country.
This country has survived a great deal, but it had a different caliber of citizens to help it survive.Comment Posted By edward cropper On 1.05.2008 @ 15:35
There has always been an element in our make-up that welcomed a quasi dictator. Huey Long had admirers
outside Louisiana. Wilson and Both Roosevelt's had the making of a benevolent iron man. Kennedy had them
swooning in the isles.
The greatest generation that survived the great depression and world war two are going fast, and those who followed hard on their footsteps are aging and dying also. When that generation is gone there will be no one left who remembers the USA as a Constitutional Republic, and will have nothing to compare our current welfare state to.
Davis is a dope and that is pretty well agreed on by those in this section of the country.(Cincinnati-Covington, Newport area) That the liberal press will goes nuts to defend their boy, oops I mean candidate is not a surprise. That a leading conservative writer would do so is.Comment Posted By edward cropper On 14.04.2008 @ 19:37

throwing the law, the Constitution, and our good standing in the world out the window by giving a “legal” basis for torture.Comment Posted By edward cropper On 3.04.2008 @ 17:36
"Our good standing in the world"? what planet did you just come from?
Ferraro did not fall on a sword. She spoke absolute truth. If Obama was a white man named George Crawford he would be looking for his first supporter some where in Outer Mongolia.Comment Posted By edward cropper On 14.03.2008 @ 12:58
Even his half ass attempt to be another JFK would be a hard sell to the guilt stricken left, who need a black to sooth their grieving hearts.
Young people who are following this guy do not have a clue what he stands for or what accomplishments he has never achieved. They do not care! They want change and do not know what change they want or what is even needed.
These Obama folks will have to learn for themselves just how shallow he really is. All of us old timers have been through this at once time in our life. Some of us have learned and grown up a little. WE now look at things with our rose colored glasses in our pockets.Comment Posted By edward cropper On 14.02.2008 @ 21:34
Obama is an empty vessel lacking any real life learned lessons or maturity and honesty to cause him to recognize his own complete lack of true political worth.
He is a recorded slogan posing as a leader.
I don't know how many of you are actively involved in local politics. If you are and are a Republican you have to be aware of the surge by RINOS in almost every position of power. Here in Ohio where I am very much involved in local politics, the Republican Party is on life support. Party leaders are wimps and totally deficient testicularly speaking. Conservatives are losing or have lost influence, and party enthusiasm is practically non existent. It is times like this that people like McCain are most acceptable.Comment Posted By edward cropper On 20.01.2008 @ 18:50
Good list, ranking is irrelevant.Comment Posted By edward cropper On 19.01.2008 @ 12:58
Your conclusion that Kings speech made white citizens look at themselves is not even close. Most blacks or whites to-day can't tell you what King said other than I have a Dream, and the content of his character section.
I agree it has to be heard to be truly appreciated. It was a magnificent, moving speech, and even King's moral hypocrisy doesn't diminish it one iota.
The dumbest thing he said was how could he be considered so inexperienced if he was out organizing political campaigns that have been running for years.Comment Posted By edward cropper On 5.01.2008 @ 22:04
Does he actually believe sane people think it is his political skills that is producing his current results.
I knew this guy was arrogant, but even this took me back a little.
