OLIVER WILLIS: IRRATIONAL CERTAINTY

If we're going to put a 'cost' on the words of conservatives how about liberals? Iraq was a much harder slog than it would have been if the Times hadn't flogged Abu Ghraib (for more than a month on the front page!) which gave hope to our enemy that we would lose will. We accept that, and even the Senate Majority Leader during a shooting war saying that very war was "lost", because we believe in free speech.

The real irony here, though, is that the left will go to great lengths to excuse the most barbaric speech within a mosque. 'It's your duty to kill Jews' apprently isn't enciting violence.

OBAMA'S FORIEGN TRIP ABOUT WHAT YOU'D EXPECT FROM A LIBERAL ROOKIE

Jeepers, m. reynolds, everything isn't America's fault. How did Bush, aka America when it's bad, crash the Irish real estate market? Seriously.

And how is AIG America's fault? AIG is all over the world. They deal with numerous country regulations, not just US regulations.

In one of the Navy schools I went to I got a piece of advice that Obama might want to reflect on. The instructor said that when you go to a new command to replace somebody, even the most unlikable, dirt baggish person you are replacing will have allies. So don't rip your predecessor or expect to find out who those allies are as you will no longer get support from them. Obama's stupid Bush bashing has finished him with 1/4th of the country (for now, anyway). That 25% is a floor of hard core disapproval that I don't think he'll rise above, failing some big event. And it was completely unnecessary - he's in his honeymoon period with a fawning press after all. We don't need a King of the Kool Kids, we need a President.

LIBERAL AUTHORITARIANISM AND EARTH HOUR

Joe forgot nuclear. I thought Dems liked science? I thought O said he was going to follow it? Apparently not enough campaign contributions from the nuclear industry flowed to O and the Dems.

And why shouldn't I think that? I grew up knowing that the party of big business is the Republican party. But what have we seen over the last six months? Fannie, Freddie, Goldman Sachs and now AIG all give, via their officers, far more money to the Ds than the Rs. I wonder why?

GOP BUDGET BALONEY

It seems to me that the choice is the same as always. The big government Republicans vs the humongous government Democrats. That hasn't changed a bit. The closest thing to a big-small government choice is divided government. Keep the thieves at each other's throats instead of the people's.

OBAMA HASN'T SHEATHED HIS SWORD OF FEAR QUITE YET

Obama is an economic nitwit. McCain is an economic halfwit (maybe quarterwit). Heck of a choice we had this go round.

THEY JUST CAN'T HELP THEMSELVES

Rahm Emanuel talked of using disasterous circumstances to push through a controversial agenda. I wonder if he's given any thought about those on the other side seeing the same opportunity? Has there ever been a better time to push mandatory term limits? If 'our' representatives can't manage a horse to water how can we lose by trading them for 'players to be named later'?

OBAMA GLIDES THROUGH PRESSER UNCHALLENGED

If tax cuts caused the crisis, why was so much of his campaign focused on tax cuts for 95% of taxpayers (sic)? It's almost as if he doesn't believe what he's saying.

N'ah. Can't be.

THE STIMULUS SHOULD GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD

Gauge the depth of the malaise by walking about? You'd think somebody would use, I don't know, statistics maybe, to gauge the depth of the malaise. Or is this that new reality based science I've heard some talk about?

Any chance at the press conference tonight any unpatriotic, disloyal members of the press ask any difficult questions? As an example, now that O has said, as it applies to banks, that taking money gives the US the right to set employee salaries will he now expand that to all organizations that accept government money? And shouldn't that be retroactive to apply to any items in the tax code that provide industry breaks? If you've already taken money, why should you get a pass that the newbies don't get? I'm just dying to know how much O believes Sean Penn should get for his next picture.

A LATE AFTERNOON STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS POST ABOUT NOTHING MUCH IN PARTICULAR

How could Obama have two good days when he hasn't actually done anything yet? In the snippets I've seen he looks overwhelmed, and who wouldn't be. Nobody is ready to be President coming out of the blocks and with Obama's lack of experience the learning curve will be a steep one.

If treading water equals a good day what's a bad day going to look like?
