INDEFENSIBLE: OBAMA FAILS HIS FIRST BIG TEST

I forget who said that the value of a country (maybe society) can be determined by what the people will do to defend it. A society nobody will defend is demonstrably worthless. A society that people will die for is valued.

What's the value of a society that elected a leader who aggrees with foreign criticism of his society, only with the caveat that it was before his time and he should, presumably, get a pass? And how narcissistic does one (or One) have to be to throw your entire country under the bus so as to avoid personal criticism? Wait until O hears about what Andrew Jackson did to the Indians. I think we're going to see quite a few ex-Presidents turned into speed bumps for the lightworker. Private citizens, living (and dead) Presidents: cross O and you'll answer to his minions.

AN FAQ ON THE TEA PARTIES

Hypocrite lefties accusing the righties of hypocrisy aren't thinking very clearly. For one, the scale of the spending is dramatically different. If $300 billion deficits were an outrage, and they were, how can you support $700 billion deficits? For another, righties did criticize Bush for spending. Even abandoned him on it. How else do you reconcile Bush's sliding approval ratings even as war news became positive? Bush was polling about 20 points below where McCain ran at.

Contrast that with what we'll see during the Obama administration. There is no way Obama every drops below 45% approval ratings. Lefties are all about 'tribe', not so much about country.

A TEA PARTY WALKBACK -- OF SORTS

I agree with every word, Rick. That's got to be a first for me.

I walked through the San Francisco TP at lunch. Many have said this but I think there will be a problem coalescing around a single or couple ideas. Now I don't like the huge spending increases O intends to implement but I respect the democratic process, if not the party. But if he (meaning we) pay for them I have no major quibble. It's the kicking the can to the next generation which made me take that walk and check it out.

But I bet in the crowd of 300-400 or so few think like me? So in the few minutes I was there I saw signs I fully agreed with, signs I kinda agreed with, and signs I didn't agree with at all. There was also an anti-Pelosi chant - I'm no fan of San Fran Nan but we just had an election and my side lost. So I wasn't into that either. So that's probably my last showing at one of these things. I could probably live with many of the different agendas but I just can't choke down the lack of respect of the democratic process. Yeah, the Dems did it (and pushed it to eleventy) but that's a big part of why I despise the Dems now. One party has to keep sane so the adults have someone to vote for.

ENEMIES OF THE STATE

Irony alert on aisle 31.

"The difference as I see it between me and “tea party” participants is that I don’t hate it more just because a democrat is president."

I guess you missed the part about the doubling of Bush era deficits. In both paragraphs. Or are you really going to say the magnitude doesn't matter?

"I find it funny that the right waited until a republican wasn’t in office (president) before throwing their tantrums."

Tell it to Supreme Court Justice Harriet Myers! That will get a giggle. You can scoff at people being concerned but not taking to the streets at $300 billion deficits and then doing so when $500 billion deficits becomes the GOAL and $700 billion is the average. I'll scoff too. People that know basic math really piss me off.

"During the Bush years, anarchists and far left anti-war activists (and some who were ludicrously innocent) became targets of interest for the FBI and other agencies"

In the 90s we had Ruby Ridge and Waco. Is there really an equivalent in the Bush era? Yeah, there's an aspect of what goes around comes around in this as when your party is in power there's nothing to rebel against (for the most part). But there's a difference between laying low and watching vs sticking a thumb in the eye of groups you don't like. For that matter, what's the Bush era equivalent of the wave of IRS audits conducted on rightie think tanks in the last half of the 90s?

"If the tea parties are to “show concerns of spending policies of an administration” where were the goddamn tea parties during the prior administration?"

Ummm, you do understand that Obama is taking Bush's overspending and doubling up on the problem? Using the CBO's numbers (supposedly non-partisan but the former head was a member of the left wing Journo-list so probably leaning left), Obama's own budget director (that very same member of Journo-list) said that his own budgets were not sustainable.

But what I don't understand is why you're not protesting? You clearly imply the Bush budgets were bad. Since Obama plans on doubling, or worse, the bad Bush deficits you must be outraged! If you're to be consistent, that is.

OBAMA PULLS THE TRIGGER: NOW HOW ABOUT SOME FOLLOW THROUGH?

Before the Pirates had been killed I was trying to distinguish the legalities, and moralities, of the pirates vs terrorists, say the accused terrorists at Gitmo, with a friend. I'm personally fine with the kill shots on the pirates but why should pirates, primarily interested in money and not violence, be taken out while terrorists are metaphorically read miranda rights and given the comfy chair? Terrorists who have a goal of killing innocents for political ends should be better protected than thieves (armed and dangerous theives but still thieves)?

And I hope I'm just missing the 'if Bush did it' blog posts and media stories. Why do I think that the Crooks and Liars snip won't be driven up the MSM flagpole? Why do I think that if Bush had given the order it would have (and generated an Olbermann short bus special comment)? Why do I think that somebody would have written 'at least with Katrina, Bush let the hurricaine kill the black people he hates so much instead of shooting them like he did with the Somalis'? Why wouldn't ANYBODY think this?

The Beckian Wing of Conservatism

I don't disagree with you, Rick, but you must know the lefties that like you have no interest in truth. They just want their side to win and so they exploit any fissures on the right. Beck mostly appeals to the already converted but has the potential to appeal to those not paying much attention. So he must be silenced, and so much the better if he can be silenced by the right, vainly trying to 'pretty up' their message. So giving this a rest is my preference.

It seems to me that a post each and every day mocking the absurdity of Democrats arguing the wisdom of trillion dollar deficits after spending 8 years bleating about the evil inherent in $300 billion deficits would be a better use of your time. In this regard we are beyond anything Lewis Carroll or George Orwell could have dreamed up.

OBAMA'S FORIEGN APOLOGIES: WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?

It seems to me that the proof is in the pudding. Does Europe just want to stroke O's thigh or does the language get us support when we need it? And that remains to be seen.
