I have to agree with Lorie. We have totally lost our ability to understand the sacrifices that were made to get us where we are.
We have just passed the 2500 combat death mark in Iraq, while no one wants to see or hear of a soldiers death there were times in the Civil War when reaching that total only took an hour or so and in WWI and WWII maybe a couple of days.
If you want your children to really understand what this country was built on...take them to Gettysburg, spend a couple of days and make sure they read every marker. One more thing that works is have them watch the movies Ted Turner made "Gettysburg" (and yes I know he is an ultra-liberal but it is still a great movies filmed totally on location) My son and I watched it both before and after the visit.
We are in a war like never before. In Vietnam all the NVA wanted was Siagon, Hitler really wanted some sort of truce with the US after he had England. This war is different they want to own us and totally control us.
My son is a Navy fighter pilot and I worry about him everyday. I wish he didn't have to be there but someones son has to do it and I am proud that my son has committed to this mission.
We have reached a point where we have a large percentage of people that think we can stop defending ourselves, stop funding the military (maybe even disband it) and still remain free.
All of us when we were in grade school faced a bully at one time or another. You either face up to him or you give him your lunch money everyday.
Teaching history is one of the most important thigs we can do for our childern....they need to understand that "Freedom in not free"

Do you trust George Bush or any President to use the awesome power of his office in a constitutional and legal manner?
Maybe a better question is:
Do you trust members of congress with national intelligence information?
As a group they seem more than willing to put political gain ahead of national security. Many times even if it treatens the very people that voted them into office. Unless I miss my guess, many of these people are violating the oath they took when they were sworn in.
If someone like Reid or even McCain were in a comparable public position in an Islamic country, do you think they would still be in office muchless alive.
The number one responsibility of the Federal Government is national security. It would be nice if these people in congress would at least act like they understood that.

Henderson told Jack several episodes ago that he (Jack) didn't want to "open Pandora's box" and find out what was really going on. Jack said a few episodes later that Henderson is a patriot and must honestly believe that what he's doing is for the good of the country.
What I can't figure out what Logan's motives might be. Power ? He's already the President. Dictatorship ? Maybe, but given what we've seen of Logan in private since Season 4 it just seems unlikely. Could it be that there is someone higher-up still calling the shots ?

Excellent work on the timeline. One of the questions that leaps out at me is what happened to FEMA's people and supplies between Sunday and Thursday? We read announcements that supplies have been pre-positioned, that people are moving in, that the national guard has thousands of troops on hand. But it's Thursday before we really see these supplies arriving in New Orleans, and Friday before the national guard convoy arrives in force at the Convention Center. So what was going on in the meantime?
From the links above, it looks like during that time some busses were taking people out of the Superdome, and the Coast Guard was conducting S&R, but what happened to all the FEMA supplies referenced on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday?
I don't wish to be conspiratorial. There are a number of reasonable answers that might emerge:
- the terrain between the supplies and New Orleans was impassible, and it took a while to figure out how to get supplies through.
- the disorder in NO was bad enough that supplies were held back until they had forces to provide security to relief workers.
- other areas had higher needs (but fewer TV cameras) and triage decisions were made to attend to other places first.But it seems like there's a clear gap in the timeline, and I don't think we've really heard an explanation for it. Some reporter is trying to run this down, right?
