Very sorry that you can’t see God. He has done amazing things in my life. Can’t imagine what it’s like to believe in nothing. Must be lonely and sad.
It's actually the most freeing and uplifting revelation a human being can have. It's not believing in nothing, it's knowing what's real, and not allowing yourself to be manipulated. Religion and god are human constructs. Living without them is not lonely and sad, it's liberating, it's true, and it's real.Comment Posted By Chuck Tucson On 24.11.2009 @ 16:20
Rick, you should try being and independent. It eliminates a spectacular amount of bullshit.Comment Posted By Chuck Tucson On 24.11.2009 @ 11:34

It’s staggering in a country full of people who claim to believe death is just a ticket to eternal life that people are such pussies about death. When I die I expect I’ll cease to exist. ... So why is it I can face it more easily than all the paradise-bound Christians?
Exactly this. Well said.Comment Posted By Chuck Tucson On 23.11.2009 @ 22:27
I believe that the government's ability to propagandize the citizenry into a black/white viewpoint regarding who the enemy is, has been greatly diminished over the years.
This is due to greatly improved worldwide communication via better phone systems and of course the internet itself.
That is not to say that it's impossible to polarize the citizenry, it's just more difficult. This isn't necessarily better though, as more devious ways of manipulating public opinion are employed, making it difficult to actually believe anyone about anything.Comment Posted By Chuck Tucson On 20.11.2009 @ 15:36

Sorry Richard, I’ll continue to cling to my religion and my guns and save your sorry ass right along with my own if that’s okay with you.
The country truly appreciates the intellectual heft that you, your god, and your guns bring to the table. You're a true American hero Gayle. Mr Bottoms (as well as the rest of us) would do well to thank you for [theoretically] saving our sorry asses from whatever it is we need to be saved from. Thank you.Comment Posted By Chuck Tucson On 18.11.2009 @ 14:32

But, then, I am sure that reading the gospels for an atheist is simply not the same as for a believer. The words just don’t stick in the mind and align in the same way, so meaning is lost.
You're right. I tried reading the bible twice. I couldn't really get past all the extreme violence, death, murder, incest, rape, sex, abuse, hypocrisy, jealousy, rage, lies, and extreme misogyny. It was hard to get past all that to get to the true message of love and compassion. I probably should have tried harder. A third attempt might be in order.Comment Posted By Chuck Tucson On 13.11.2009 @ 09:51

To me, being “politically correct” is treating others with a false kind of deference, because of a fear of being criticized if you spoke candidly. IOW, it’s kind of cowardly behavior.
Political correctness is simply a way naming people or groups of people what they prefer to be named, instead of being an asshole and naming them in a manor more suitable to your tastes. Political Correctness is proper naming.
It's not a false deference, it's respect. It's not cowardly in the least, it only seems that way because some people think they are restrained by it. It's like asking your friend Steven if he prefers to be called Steve. If he prefers Steve, then fucking call him Steve. If you call him Steven, you're just being a dick.Comment Posted By Chuck Tucson On 12.11.2009 @ 14:48
Anyone who would take me to task for this has some serious problems.
I know I'm an asshole, but I swear, every time I read the PJM comments on your posts I get all defensive and start ranting at my monitor, "Nobody talks to Rick Moran like that!"Comment Posted By Chuck Tucson On 11.11.2009 @ 13:29
