IS OUR NATIONAL WILL 'WILTING AWAY?'

Greed is a symptom of the much larger problem that we refuse to face; a loss of faith in our institutions and, more directly, in each other.

Greed isn't a symptom of anything. It's a fundamental part of the human condition, and is the very reason that the government must protect our water, highways, and bridges.

A TEPID BUT REALISTIC DEFENSE OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION IN THE AIG MATTER

If you don’t shut the fuck up about Bush every single time I mention something, you are going to be banned. Bush is not in the White House. End of story. And I did point out the hypocrisy in the Bush administration time and time and time again. For you not to acknowledge that shows your ignorance. Either add something constructive or go away.

I'm sorry Rick. I'll be good.

If Geithner has lied, he must go — plain and simple.

ha ha ha ha... good one Rick. If the previous administration is any indicator of how things work in the US government, Geithner will get a presidential medal of freedom, a cool nickname, and a sweet book deal when it's all over.

It’s hard to see how he lasts through the weekend except the president just recenty expressed “full confidence” in his leadership at Treasury.

This keeps getting better! Change Treasury to Department of Defense and you've got Rumsfeld! Nothing changes.

So anyway, back to being too distracted by the AIG bonus thing to notice what's going on with the TARP billions.

BRING BACK THE STOCKS!

This AIG bonus thing is a distraction to keep the citizenry from asking where the really big money went.

3. All that after I recommended putting them in the stocks and throwing rotten fruit at them?

The whole piece felt like sarcasm. As in, this is how capitalism works, so stop moaning and get over it American Public.

The banking executives are heroes of the American dream, which is to make money. It will be hilarious watching them get paid, because it's in their contracts. All while watching the incompetent government sit and flounder as the growing lower class whines endlessly about the rich getting richer.

Here's what I came away from this post with:

1. Democrats are stupid hypocrite losers.
2. Republicans are decent folk with tough problems.
3. Bankers are among the smartest human beings on the planet because while failing at capitalism, they manage to win big at banking socialism and we should all respect that.

I love the fact that banker bonuses are tied to nothing. Destroy the bank and economy? Here's your bonus. Oh, wait, you mean the bank can't afford the bonus? Well, we'll just hold the federal government hostage till they pay up. Then once we get our bounuses, we'll quit.

Nothing like free taxpayer dollars. Financial terrorism. It's the new American way.

1. True

2. Wha? Who? WTF? Get your glasses fixed.

3. All that after I recommended putting them in the stocks and throwing rotten fruit at them?

You really are an idiot, aren't you?

HOW RADICAL IS BARACK OBAMA?

What I do know is that it would be a lot easier to engage in “rugged individualism” if I wasn’t dependent on my job-issued health coverage.

A-FUCKING-MEN!

Sirius,

I have my own opinions about the ills of socialism, but I'm at a loss as to how you can equate nihilism with this type of social policy. Would you care to elaborate?

I think even without 9/11 the Bushies and neocons were gunning for Saddam.

You make a compelling point. I wonder how they would have done it without 9/11 though. From the Bushies to TARP, to the current aptly named spending orgy, I've become ridiculously bitter and jaded towards both parties.

I'm telling you... following politics is arguably worse than heroin or crack. It's just that with heroin or crack there aren't as many frustrating variables.

Come to think of it, just about anyone who writes a blog is guilty of the former so perhaps I am being too hard on Professor Cole as far as his constant self promotion is concerned.

It doesn't get more American than constant self promotion!

And what I find despicable is the president and his cohorts using the “opportunity” of an economic crisis to bring about these transformative policies by subterfuge. They wouldn’t fly otherwise and they know it.

Oooo! I like this. We can apply it to the Republican guard as well, check it out:

Yay! Both parties are filled with horrible lying hacks.

I disagree. I think even without 9/11 the Bushies and neocons were gunning for Saddam. Some other excuse would have been found. The vote for force may have been closer but it probably still would have carried.
