STILL MISSING THE BIG ONE

The real problem is that even if they( they being the CIA) were demonstrably corrupt /inept, our country lacks the realpolitik ability to eliminate them. We can't even manage to be shed of the Commerce Dept. or the criminally useless Dept. of Education.

WHY JOHNNY CAN'T FIND RAMADI ON A MAP

Pinto
You are exactly correct. As someone of an age that the abolishment of the draft was of acute interest, the public discourse at the time ran to the "Let's have an all volunteer force". The net result over the years has been that the military requirement has been filled with citizens such as my daughter( a much higher caliber component than her father I assure you), to the detriment of a more socially diverse population.
The basis for this end result lies solidly with Democratic party. For the Democrats to deny what has been such a demonstrable success only indicates how completely they have retreated from the public mainstrean.

THE LEFT JUST COULDN'T "HACK-ETT"

LOL - that is the biggest bunch of hypocrisy I have ever seen. You accuse the Dems of recount mania? Did you see the Washington State gov race?

Hand it to the neocons droids- y'all win elections. Wrap yerself in da' old flag and whistle dixie...me thinks the electorate, however, might be smelling a LOT of chicken hawk froam that group now...

SUPERHAWK TO JARVIS: BUZZ OFF

"But to see Mr. Jarvis and the libertarian wing of the Republican party explode in righteous indignation on this issue makes me think they’ve been looking for an excuse to start a fight with the religious right all along."

Bingo. Some of the leaders of this "explosion of righteous indignation", Mr. Bill Quick and his co-bloggers, began their jihad by first targetting their own commentators with religious outlooks soon after the 2004 elections.

I believe this reaction was triggered by the MSM drumbeat (false, as usual) that "JesusLand" and "moral issues" won the election for W. And the "religion is all very well in its place(*)" crowd actually believed the MSM, because it aligned with their preconceptions.

I wonder if that wasn't the MSM's goal all along in their hysterical JesusLand post-November reporting: not to fire up the left, but to goad a fight within the right. And the Derbyshire/Quick wing has fallen for it.

(*) "its place" is, apparently, in the closet and nowhere near a voting booth or protest march. Any opinion or vote influenced by religious precepts is, I guess, illegitimate, and should be drowned or driven out. As it has been on Mr. Quick's blog.

THE CLOCK IS TICKING...AGAIN

Really enjoying your posts. Every year I think I will stop watching 24 but I always come back. As a defense contractor myself I found it amusing that M-F was painted as the evil bad guys determined to preserve their company (read profits) by resorting to such drastic means. Hope they had good backups:)
