The bill creates a health care exchange. That means, any health insurance company in your state can belong to this exchange. What employees will be offered is a cafeteria style choice of health plans, which will include their current carrier, but also give them the option of other plans, as well.
Now, if your employer has had the same insurance for the last 10 years, and chooses to keep the same insurance plan forever, that plan is grandfathered in. But if there are any major CHANGES in the plan, then your employer must offer the cafeteria-style plan. That selection WILL contain your current insurance company, and if you’re happy with that, you don’t have to change. But there is NOTHING forcing you to switch to the public insurance plan.
In fact, right now, almost no one has a choice of insurance plans. Their employer chooses a plan for them, signs a contract, and open enrollment is basically a choice of nothing. This will give you a choice of every health insurance company operating in your state, and each one has to offer three levels of plan.
In other words, ask yourself which private insurance company you chose to be with, and what will you do if his employer switches to a different company next year? The company I was with until recently changed insurance companies every couple of years; I never had a choice. And this was a billion dollar company.
The plan gives people more choice, not less, and NO ONE will be forced to take public insurance if they don’t want to. And it doesn’t say anything like that…

Chicagotrauma, your post #54 has a false piece of information. The bill HR3200 on page 16 says nothing to do with forcing people to take the public option in 5 years. Hell, the section is entitled 'Protecting the Choice to Keep Current Coverage.'

You can't take 1 section out of context with the rest of the bill. Read the whole thing over first.

Not true. I think - and no doubt Beck, Coulter and Hannity think - that if the Obama way moves forward without significant opposition, we're headed for a soft tyranny, but all the figures you mention (and every other "pop-con" I can think of) advocate only constitutional measures to combat this trend; elections, perhaps Randy Barnett's omnibus Federalism Amendment, etc.
You should retract your sloppy and broad libel.

In your piece on Obama, you say:

I have no idea how you are able to look into the man's soul and determine that his asserted religious beliefs, which he has consistently held for over 20 years, are merely calculated. You would be justifiably outraged if a left-wing blogger asserted, as some do, that Bush's fundamentalist conversion was politically motivated. If you have some evidence (and if you did, you wouldn't say "it is not beyond imagining" that his beliefs are calculated), say so. Otherwise, oppose him on his politics and leave his religion alone.
Also, the suggestion that he voted "present" as a matter of calculation ignores to some extent the rules in the Illinois State Senate. Unlike the US Senate, where a bill passes if it gets a majority of the votes cast, in the Illinois Senate, a bill doesn't pass unless a majority of the members vote for it. For instance, if there were 100 members, and the vote on a bill was 49 for, 1 against, and 50 present, the bill would be defeated. A "present" vote allows a member to defeat a bill, but keep the door open to support it in an amended form.
It's still possible, of course, that on some "present" votes, as well as some absences, Obama was calculating--what politician isn't? But you do a disservice to careful analysis if you don't address the unusual rules under which he was operating.

I'm proud of her. I love that she will not shy from the fight. We need more like her on both the right and left.
The left (and right) loses the argument when they drift into personal attacks.
Geraldo lost the argument--most of Michelle's opponents generally do.
