'IQ OF A CELERY STALK?' WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT ONE?

When you find yourself praising something written by Matt Taibbi you might as well find a new line of work. You're lost.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE DATE NIGHT IN HISTORY

Not the same thing by a longshot, as a little thing called the constitution can be (and usually is) suspended when the POTUS comes to visit...so, not even in the same ballpark...
Too many people tend to confuse paparazzi hustle with the very real mission of the Secret Service.
Other than that, more power to him.

Kind of a stupid argument, but the real cost of these kind of things are not the transport and security costs (although significant). It is the disruption to all of the regular people that had their plans put on hold by this media event, people that had no idea that this stuff was going to be happening on their previously planned "Date night". Often, people just get their reservations cancelled due to security concerns, and surrounding small businesses are "asked" to close up due to the same concerns.
On the other hand, I am pretty sure that the Crawford hillbillies and the Bush folks had the drill down and...it being home to stupid country folk and all.

SMALL TOWN HEROES FROM THE HEARTLAND

All I have come to believe after living among both urbanites and country dwellers is that most of the former don't really understand enough about the general worldview of the latter; and that many more of the latter understand plenty about the worldview of the former.
This is mostly due to the mainstream media and our public education racket.
It has always seemed to me that with country folks it is more about the "we" or the "us". City folks, not so much.

GLENN BECK AND THE RADICAL RIGHT

I'll take Glenn Beck's nuttiness over Olbermann's nuttiness every day. At least you're laughing with him and not at him.

JINDAL IS NOT THE ANSWER

I happened to stumble upon your blog, and as a strong proponent of science, critical thinking, and as someone who has consistently voted Democratic, I found this post pleasantly surprising. Your discussion of Jindal is quite right, and its nice to see that there are prominent conservatives that aren't playing the religious right's game anymore.

Just one quibble:
"Believing in ID/creationism flies in the face of the facts. Do we really want a president who does that?"

You (the big You) elected one twice.

BLAGO STINK IS EXPANDING

No. I don't think Obama was directly involved. Likely only his chief of staff.
Between the (intercepted?) conference call on the 10th of November and the 7:56PM press release via CNN later that evening, somebody from the Government's investigative side probably went into damage control mode and let a few people know, who let a few other people know, etc, etc...probably leading to one of those "greater good" actions on the part of our leaders..."smut-control" for the benefit of our President-elect.

WILL NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE KILL CONSERVATISM?

Conservatives need to exert a LOT more control of who represents them in the MSM. There are a lot of pseudo-conservatives out there who are either untalented or simply serve up counter-conservative opinions for MSM talking points. David Brooks and most of the "conservatives" on MSNBC come to mind as this type of useful idiot for the Left. Notice all of the lavish coverage received by "conservatives" who bash Palin? I am not saying Mr. Pethokoukis falls into this category, but honestly I never heard of him until the firestorm this article created. Where is Mark Steyn in the national dialogue? Where is Michelle Malkin? Where is Ed Morrissey or anyone else you turn to for insight? Conservatives should really work harder to banish the Brooks of the world and promote the Steyns. Until then, the Left's caricature of conservatism will be the political reality in the minds of the American people, even the well read.

OBAMA STARTING TO CREEP ME OUT

Can anyone tell me why a man with one black African parent (he was born in Kenya) and one white American parent (she is from a 'typical' Anglo-Celtic background) is defined as being only black? Surely he is about as perfectly mixed as anyone could be.

This is important, because the 'black camp' touts their need for a black candidate as an antidote for white racism and prejudice. Interesting, given Obama Sr's reaction to the mixed race wedding: "He didn't want the Obama blood sullied by a white woman, Obama recalls his mother saying."

Right back at you, guys! The whole deal, including the cheesy seal in question, should be ringing alarm bells from one end of the Republic to the other.
