GOP A BIG LOSER AT CPAC

I wouldn't read too strongly into the Ron Paul straw poll victory. The entire Campaign for Liberty PAC was there, undoubtedly voting for their leader. It's exactly like what happened two years ago when Mitt Romney won when you could tell his entire campaign staff was there. Oh man, what a surprise.

OBAMA'S STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION ON SPACE POLICY

I agree with most of John Galt's reactions, but I'd like to touch on a few other things.

I think most people can agree that when it comes to producing engineers and math majors, we don't have many homegrown Americans pursuing this anymore. One of the many beneficial side affects of NASA has always been to inspire young people to go into these fields. The fact that we haven't done anything remarkable in a long time I'm sure contributes to this. Politicians on both sides of the aisle complain about math and science scores in this country, yet Republicans want to defund the program because they don't want to spend the money, and Democrats want to spend the money on welfare instead.

NASA's problem is that nobody has articulated a clear mission. Some of the back end stuff like commercial space flights should probably be dropped from NASA and picked up by the private sector; however, the bleeding edge of exploration like when we eventually want to make a manned flight to Mars will always have to be done by the government because it's essentially pointless from an ROI perspective.

NASA is responsible for taking a man off the planet we are from and landing on the moon; something I would consider to be mankind's greatest achievement. The task ahead would to be to find a clear goal, and Obama has just made that worse.

The reason a company like GMAC had to be bailed out was that somehow a corporation who's purpose was to provide financing for cars got mixed up in speculation for derivatives based around housing mortgages. When an organization has no idea what its purpose is, bad things are bound to happen.

If Obama feels that we need to spend more time looking into climate change, then make that argument to the people and get either NOAA or the EPA to do it or create a new organization with that as its purpose. NASA's job should be something that at least sounds like to National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

MY CONSERVATIVE APOSTASY AND WHY I DON'T GIVE A F**K WHAT YOU THINK

Rick, get a grip man. Your posts are starting to seem as rabid, frothfilled and filled with ad-hominem attacks as the folks you wish to criticize. Many Republicans see how the left elected a very left of center politician who had extremely dicey relationships with a lot of repugnant people and they wonder why they can't do the same. You obviously want a tilt to the center, but the tone of your posts will not curry favor with many in the Republican party.

If you don't like where its going, stop the rants and become a little more coherent. For example, you throw out issues to make your point that have no basis in fact. For example, is conservatism really in disfavor? I think you're mixing up the Republican brand with conservatism. More people consistently poll as self identified conservatives than they do as liberals or "non-aligned" and those numbers have increased over the last year thanks to Obama and the Congrees. However, even the Republican brand is seeing a resurgence, although mostly because people have now experienced the liberal brand at full force.

So take a valium, catch your breath and take a step back.

'SILENCE EQUALS ASSENT:' WHY POINTING OUT CONSERVATIVE LUNACY MUST BE DONE

Half the reason your site is so good is because you spend time criticizing the right, but from the inside. When you read lefty critiques it is sometimes hard to learn anything because of how smug they are and how differently they often view the world. When you've got someone critiquing you that generally agrees with Burke and Kirk, it tends to be a lot more useful.

DEFENDING POLANSKI: 'IT'S NOT RAPE-RAPE'

Liberals tend to always stick up for sexual minorities. Look at the countless number of celebrities who support homosexual acts. Its just a matter of timebefore these celebrities begin to tout their "Equality for ALL" slogan again! I mean seriously... we got all of these celebrities who not only defend homosexual behavior but are now defending pedosexual behavior! Consesnual sex with any minor is morally wrong. Consensual sex between siblings is morally wrong. Consensual sex between two sexes morally wrong. However, only one of these three lifestyles is being granted acceptance... its just a matter of time before the left becomes swayed even more to accept pedosexuals as they do with homosexuals. After all, why would a pedosexual "choose" to be one if they are going to suffer so much!?!? They are born pedosexual! Right people... just like homosexuals claim they are born that way. How did society become so gullible to think the moral compass can be so skewed for some but not all??? Those who were for homosexual marriage in California (Prop 8) were claiming "Equality for all". Does the "all" mean pedosexuals too, or brother-sister relationships, bi-sexual bigamous relationships, and animal love relationships??? Crazy people... can't wait to see another Alicia Silverstone commerical on FunnyorDie... but this time for defense of Roman Polanski!

WHAT'S THE RUSH TO MARS, BUZZ? IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S GOING ANYWHERE

I don't think you really get the space exploration issue, which is strange since you're way older than me. Or perhaps you don't get it because you aren't too young to remember Apollo 11.

Either way, it isn't about doing anything in particular. But it does have several side benefits that I think make it entirely worth it.

1. All the cool stuff we'll invent by accident that we then get to sell. Tons of inventions were created by/for NASA and are now used and sold commercially such as Teflon and GoreTex.

2. Inspiring the children of this country to actually go into fields like Engineering. We haven't really done anything inspiring in years, and our engineering programs are flooded with foreigners. I don't think the fact that we are educating foreigners is a problem, but simply that we aren't educating any of our own kids. They all want to go to film and music school to become rock stars and actors.

3. We're a nation of explorers. Going somewhere we've never been is exciting, and it would probably be a lot better for our national attention span to have coverage of a fantastic achievement rather than the death of a celebrity like michael jackson, another political scandal, or some terrorist attack/natural disaster.

No it will never pay for itself, and it will certainly be expensive, but this is one of the few things our government actually does well. Something extraordinary but completely pointless.

DEALERGATE: STATISTICAL COINCIDENCE OR POLITICAL BIAS? (IMPORTANT UPDATE BELOW)

As convenient as it might be if this is true, it sounds more like statistical coincidence to me. These are small business owners, the people Obama was going to raise taxes on. Why would they be donating any money to him in the first place?

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE

>>
Your family dies unless this guy talks. We cannot get him to say anything. Do we water board him? Well, do we?

A police officer draws his pistol. If he does not squeeze the trigger, an innocent victim dies. What does he do?

The last of these memos was written in 2005 ... and if you read them there is NO talk of ticking-bomb scenarios ... in fact it's just the opposite ... careful cover-my-as$ parsing of words and inverted logic that must have taken them days to come up with ... there was no emergency.

GLENN BECK AND THE RADICAL RIGHT

You obviously feel under appreciated at the moment, but that will pass I'm sure. The rage conservatives have will pass, and rational thinking will win out in the end.

There's a distinct difference between liberals and conservatives. Conservatives have jobs and responsibilities; therefore, we only have so many rats asses on hand at any time. We can't just be giving them out nonstop like liberals do, or we'll be worn out and disillusioned long before the next election.

IDEOLOGY vs PRINCIPLES? SCHWARZENEGGER HIDES UNDER THE BUS

You wouldn't happen to be speaking about CPAC would you?

So many of my fellow Republicans don't even bother to think about what their principles are. They just think conservatism means tax cuts and being against abortions. You seem to be one of the very few people out there actually examining the philosophical framework with which policies are supposed to come from.
